About this listen

The Number One Sunday Times Bestseller, written and read by Russell Brand.

This is the age of addiction, a condition so epidemic, so all encompassing and ubiquitous that unless you are fortunate enough to be an extreme case, you probably don't know that you have it.

What unhealthy habits and attachments are holding your life together? Are you unconsciously dependent on food? Bad relationships? A job that doesn't fulfill you? Numb, constant perusal of your phone, looking for what?

My qualification for writing this book is not that I am better than you, it's that I am worse. I am an addict, addicted to drugs, alcohol, sex, money, love and fame.

The program in Recovery has given Russell Brand freedom from all addictions and it will do the same for you.

This system offers nothing less than liberation from self-centredness, a new perspective, freedom from the illusion of suffering for anyone who is willing to take the necessary steps.

This book was heartbreaking, uplifting and inspiring at the same time. I'd been looking forward to its release and it didn't disappoint. Although I wouldn't consider myself an additct in the obvious junkie/alcoholic way, I've always felt that something was missing. Russell makes you consider how you live your life and your drives in ways I haven't heard before, even though I've read a number of self help/yoga/meditation books. I don't think he gets the credit he's due for trying to change people's life for the better. I'm glad he's found happiness with his new wife as well.

Narration added nuance that may be missed in reading the book.

I love this book. Even though the steps and information around them are in depth and require work, I still completely got it and I get Russell. His vocabulary is genius. His heart and soul are in this book and his humour as always too.
I've struggled my whole life, I've had anxiety and depression and have used food and sometimes alcohol to self medicate. I'm massively over weight now and at times I feel trapped. The book has helped me understand the addictions I have and even how that all relates to my mental health issues.
It's really helpful to see food recognised as an addiction in this way, as usually you are just disregarded as greedy and you feel even more worthless.

I'm going to read it again asap and get to work.
