Summary

Dark, sexy, dangerous and wildly listenable, Good Samaritans marks the scorching return of one of crime fiction’s most exceptional voices.

One crossed wire, three dead bodies and six bottles of bleach.

Seth Beauman can’t sleep. He stays up late, calling strangers from his phone book, hoping to make a connection, while his wife, Maeve, sleeps upstairs. A crossed wire finds a suicidal Hadley Serf on the phone to Seth, thinking she is talking to The Samaritans.

But a seemingly harmless late-night hobby turns into something more for Seth and for Hadley, and soon their late-night talks are turning into daytime meet-ups. And then this dysfunctional love story turns into something altogether darker when Seth brings Hadley home.... And someone is watching....

Now, how can I put this?

Great narration of an intriguing story with plenty of twists.

One or two reviews have made mention of the graphic content - I naively thought they were referring to gruesome deaths or injuries, which I'm fairly comfortable with, being a strong-stomached aficionado of crime fiction. Deaths and injuries do feature, but the frequent description of sexual arousal and response was frankly tiresome in my opinion. The story would have been just as strong without them, and I wondered whether the author was aiming for some sort of psycho crime/soft porn mashup to double his potential readership?

Having said that, I did listen to then end. Probably won't be seeking out Will Carver's works again, though.

Whoa!!!

This book isn’t for the faint hearted as it’s very graphic. However I couldn’t stop listening and was hooked as the story unravels. Really well written and amazing twists!

Gruesome but awesome

Well, I will never look at household cleaning products the same way again, that’s for sure!
This book is mind-bogglingly dark and gruesome yet equally captivating and entertaining. I was curious, shocked, disgusted and absorbed; I smiled and blushed to mention just some of the emotions this story made me feel. It was gripping from start to finish and I ended up listening to the whole audiobook in one day.
I highly recommend Good Samaritans to everyone who enjoy their stories dark, twisted and infused with a sprinkle of humour.

Thoroughly original and engaging

I literally couldn’t stop listening to this audio book. Engaging, funny and dark from the offset.
I can’t believe this hasn’t been made into a tv drama yet!

an unbelievable, disturbing and enthralling book

I utterly loved listening to every minute of this brilliant book... it was disturbing, a little depraved and incredibly, addictively absorbing and enthralling... hyperbole from me but utterly deserved ...

Odd but reels you in

This book shouldn’t work, it’s an odd story, with odd characters, but somehow it does work. It’s draws you in and you want to/have to finish it.

Great book..................

Loved it..................it was gritty/edgy and well written/narrated. My only gripe was that there are just soooooooo many short chapters. But well worth a listen
