Summary

From out of the shadows of the Silent War, a hero emerges. Clad all in grey, an errant warrior of the Legiones Astartes kneels before the Regent of Terra, and accepts a solemn new duty - Battle-Captain Garro, once commander of the Eisenstein, now Agentia Primus of Malcador the Sigillite.

From the desolation of Isstvan to the halls of the Imperial Palace itself, he stands as a paragon of loyalty and protector of the innocent, ever ready to strike back at the traitorous allies of the Warmaster. But Garro is walking a path of his own, one that may lead him to question his own place in the Imperium...and what if he, too, should falter?

This audiobook contains James Swallow's complete saga of Nathaniel Garro in the Horus Heresy - the audio drama series is embellished and expanded in prose, with additional scenes to represent the author's original vision. This all serves as prelude to the events of the novella Vow of Faith, bringing Garro closer to his inescapable destiny as the first true martyr of the Lectitio Divinitatus.

Critic reviews

" Garro is not a collection of short stories - it's James Swallow's full novelisation of Nathaniel Garro's story arc, something we've previously only seen (in part) in the audio dramas and novella. There are new and extended scenes, whole new chapters in fact, making this just about the most definitive exploration of the founding of the Knights Errant, and everything that comes after...." (Laurie Goulding, The Horus Heresy series editor)

A good 40k story...

A good story for fans of the grimdark universe who wish to see more depth in the era of the Horus Heresy.

Probably not any good for anyone who has not already delved into the setting.

The reader was excellent.

Enjoyable story arc

I am home carer and my duties have increased by 500% during this Lockdown.

Being able to listen to some of my favourite 40k stories whilst spending hours travelling between vulnerable peoples homes has been a god sent.

Garro was already a great character and this audio book does him justice.

Recommended.

I loved it..

I had heard the Garro series before, but individually to have them here in one book was treat..

If you've not listened to Flight of the Eisenstein, it will explain Garros stepping off point.!

To hear how Garro has been made Argentia Primus of the Sigillite and the missions to find other Astartes of a same mind to defend The Emperor and Mankind against the Traitor Marines and Daemons

Good not great

I listened to this to gain more background in to Garro and his part in the Horus Heresy and I felt somewhat let down by these tales, they were interesting but too long and repeated the same themes again and again (I know this is common in Warhammer but had hoped for change here) the narration was as already very good and I would have probably given up listening if not for that saving grace

Garro at his Finest

The story about Captain Garro is incredible, James Swallow fully breathes life into a true Loyal Space Marine, one that everyone could admire.

Yet again a breath taking story, narrated by Toby Longworth, I havent listened to him before in favour of Johnathan Keeble, but im am pleased to say, Toby proved to be yet another outstanding Narrator to listen to for the Horus Heresy series

I was constantly impressed by Tony's performance and totally indulged by the story that unfolded.

Captain Garro the Grey is now one of my all time favourite characters in the Warhammer Universe.

10/10 on every level, a must listen to! But! Listen to the previous book about Garro known as The Flight of Eisenstein, then listen to this to continue his story

Malcador the completely different

The book is decent, but the thing that epidemice My dislike for this book is how much malcador act differently then in every book that comes before it... He has always been depicted as jovial and wise, sure he was ruthless enough to found the assassinorium, but he never showed rage or callusnes, and he always found a use for those Who remained loyal to the throne... Yet in this he kills loyal servent, nd plans the murder of even more loyal souls, and when garro shows the tenacity to unravel one of malcadors secrets which looked like a traitor plot, malcador punishes him instead of seeing it as the skill and loyalt to the throne that it was.... So yeah characers in this book grates against how they have been shown in the past...

Garro the Faithful

Garro, always one of my favorite characters, gets the ark he deserves here. As space marines are sometimes viewed, even by their own comrades, as killing machines, Garro brings an introspective look into the insecurities of one of the most noble Astartes ever created.

Although the inner turmoil of the Astartes is sometimes chronicled throughout the Horus Heresy series, Garro allows for us to see that battle play out to it's end. At the conclusion of the Battle Captain's search for purpose and belonging, we see a rarely found force that gives our hero the will to keep moving forward... Faith.

Awesome!

The only thing I didn't like was that it ended with no sequel to reveal Garro's next path.

Great work!

There needs to be more stories written about Garro especially during the Siege of Terra. It would be an exciting read to imagine Garro and the other Ghosts become the first Grey Knights.
