About this listen

"Yep, I'm going to have to kill her."

Janie

When my father passed away, I assumed my grieving would be as simple as closing a book and starting another. Only he had other plans.

Leaving me his beloved tattoo shop, I’m stuck to figure out what exactly to do with it, all while being constantly reminded of him.

Selling it was the easiest option, but after hearing some of the artists elated at the idea because they swore I’d ruin it if I took over, and reading the fine print of my father’s will, I’m determined to prove them wrong.

The only problem is Fox.

He’s arrogant, self-absorbed, and rude–doing everything in his power to show just how true their words would ring.

Unfortunately for him though, I’ve never been afraid of a challenge.

Fox

Hel’s Ink was supposed to be mine, but after my mentor passed away, I learned he had other plans in mind.

Leaving the shop to someone like Janie was a bad idea. Sure, she may be able to make it look good on the surface, but there is more to running this place than social media posts and some paint. We’re a family, and she’s not welcomed.

Only the longer she’s here, the harder it’s proving to believe my own words.

She’s too young for me, and far too complicated, but I can’t help but wonder what would happen if I just give in....

This is the Special Edition of Foxre-edited and with a bonus chapter at the end.

Oh baby doll, this was so good!!!

This was so much more emotionally heavy than I thought it was going to be.

The banter is that this book is top level. I was laughing so much!!

Janie is such a sassy character, and I loved her so much and so just took no shit!

Papa Fox is grumpy and delicious.

Maxine and Sebastian in DUET!? It was more amazing than I knew it was going to be.

Maxine made me cry when she broke down as Janie was dealing with her grief and then made me laugh a second letter with a witty comeback hitting the comedy of the line so on point.

Sebastian was perfect for Papa Fox and really brought growlyness and softness to his voice while talking to Janie. He also added so much emotion with fox dealing with childhood trauma.

I loved every side character, and I can not wait for their stories.

What could make this book even better than it was, that would be to have an extended version with added content, a bonus chapter and best of all, more Fox, Janie and Hel’s Ink! And I loved everything about this book, from DJ Krimmer’s wonderful writing style to the fabulous characters and storylines she created to the superbly talented narrators who bring it all to life from the pages to your ears. I adored both lead characters, Fox and Janie, and there are some great secondary and support characters too, especially Fox’s fellow tattoo artists at Hel’s Ink, all of whom have their own books, and I am hoping they come to audio soon. Hel’s Ink Tattoo Shop was Tony’s baby, and he hand-selected the artists who worked there and, after some great word-of-mouth references, his business took off nicely. His other baby was his daughter Janie, who practically grew up in the back of that shop, and when she got older, she wanted to do more, but her father ran the shop his own way so she set off and became a social media influencer. Only to return to the shop after her father’s passing, and that was to sell it to Fox, the tattooist who wanted to keep the shop a success and to always honor Tony, who took him in when he was at his lowest. Except Tony had other plans, putting a stipulation in his will that Janie needed to keep the shop for a year before signing it over. Fox and the boys in the shop were not happy about this change of events and did not think Janie belonged in the shop, or at least the Janie they thought they know, but there is more to Janie than her social-influencer personality, a lot more. Fox and Janie bonk heads right from the start, and she gives him a run for his money and gives as good as she gets. As they spend more time together, it becomes clearer that there is a powerful chemistry between them, an undeniable chemistry, one that Fox continues to fight because she is off-limits and it is not only because of their age difference. This is a captivating and wonderfully plotted, multi-layered story with complex characters, and the perfect balance of drama, charming humor via witty dialogue, heartfelt emotions and a slow burn but so worth the wait romance. The world building is fantastic, as are the character growth and development. DJ Kriimmer, thank you for this amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 Wow, what a way to elevate this already amazing story to another level, a duet narration performed by Maxine Mitchell and Sebastian York. With character voices that were fitting their portrayal of each was spot on, sounding believable and just as I imagined the characters to sound. Mitchell nailed as Janie, showcasing all traits of her personality, her strengths, vulnerabilities, sass and her wit, while York did the same as Fox and was a natural in the role. Both were just as amazing in the roles of the secondary characters, too. They set the perfect tone for the story and handled the witty dialogue effortlessly. You could hear how much heart they put into their performance as they capture all the characters’ emotions and have you feel every single one. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thanks for another exceptional listen.

Something about the way Maxine Mitchell and Sebastian York brought Janie and Fox to life in the audiobook made this a 5 star read for me. I was so immersed in the story and how Janie and Fox came together, as well as their own individual battles and struggles.

I am also absolutely smitten with the side characters and can’t wait for the next instalments.

So powerful and moving

Fox has been working at Hel’s tattoo studio for years, and when shop owner, mentor, and friend Tony passes, the shop is unexpectedly left to his daughter, Janie. Janie wants nothing to do with the shop; she has a tainted and tumultuous relationship with it for a few reasons and doesn’t want to be surrounded by those memories. But when Fox just expects her to sell Hel's to him because he thinks Janie is nothing more than a shallow, selfish influencer, Janie's bitterness, stubborn streak, and drive to get under Fox's skin mean she is more than ready to stay. Can these two learn to coexist, or will all that tension turn into chemistry they will struggle to deny?

My first book by this author, and I had a blast listening to it. I liked every character that was introduced. I loved the setting; the relationships and dynamics felt realistic between them, and the chemistry and tension were on point. I felt for Janie; she was a social media influencer with way too much pressure on her, and I thought the point about it being a beast of her own making and knowing that beast had to be fed daily for her survival and how she had to present herself exactly right or lose everything was important social commentary showcased through her character. The communication between the characters felt authentic. Yes, there were miscommunications at times, but that's life. Fox & Janie actually felt like a tangible couple because of those sometimes flawed actions.

I appreciate it when authors write characters that give representation to the disabled community in any way, and it was great to have that diversity in this with Janie's character. The spice was on point, and hearing Sebastian York & Maxine Mitchell deliver some of the dialogue was delicious. They both gave fantastic performances throughout this audiobook and delivered on the emotional parts of this story as well as the snark and banter that at times had me chuckling out loud. The only reason this didn't get a full 5⭐️ from me is I needed just a smidge more in the way of feeling their romantic connection outside of the clear lust they had for each other for their love to feel truly believable for me. I will definitely be picking up book 2 at some point without question.🌶🌶🌶 Check Content and TWs if necessary.
