Story
A business parable about how to create a start-up that won't trap you when you want to sell it. According to John Warrillow, the number one mistake entrepreneurs make is to build a business that relies too heavily on them. Thus, when the time comes to sell, buyers aren't confident that the company-even if it's profitable-can stand on its own. To illustrate this, Warrillow introduces us to a fictional small business owner named Alex who is struggling to sell his advertising agency.

Years ago, after suffering a humiliatingly large dumb tax, it dawned on me that I have a seemingly unlimited ability to hit unforced errors and sabotage my business and financial success. I suspect you do, too. It turns out that the key to getting rich (and staying that way) is to avoid doing stupid things. I don't need to do more smart things. I just need to make fewer dumb mistakes. The vast majority of our dumb tax is a direct result of emotional, overly optimistic, and poorly thought out decisions.

Unbelievably good... The real deal
- By Amazon Customer on 24-10-21
Summary
From Mike Michalowicz, the author of Profit First, Clockwork, and The Pumpkin Plan, comes the ultimate diagnostic tool for every entrepreneur.
The biggest problem entrepreneurs have is that they don't know what their biggest problem is. If you find yourself trapped between stagnating sales, staff turnover, and unhappy customers, what do you fix first? Every issue seems urgent - but there's no way to address all of them at once. The result? A business that continues to go in endless circles putting out urgent fires and prioritizing the wrong things.
Fortunately, Mike Michalowicz has a simple system to help you eradicate these frustrations and get your business moving forward, fast. Mike himself has lived through the struggles and countless distractions of entrepreneurship, and devoted years to finding a simple way to pinpoint exactly where to direct attention for rapid growth. He figured out that every business has a hierarchy of needs, and if you can understand where you are in that hierarchy, you can identify what needs immediate attention. Simply fix that one thing next, and your business will naturally and effortlessly level-up.
Over the past decade, Mike has developed an ardent following for his funny, honest, and actionable insights told through the stories of real entrepreneurs. Now, Fix This Next offers a simple, unique, and wildly powerful business compass that has already helped hundreds of companies get to the next level, and will do the same for you. Immediately.
Includes exclusive author commentary throughout the audiobook and a bonus author interview at the end of the program.
Critic reviews
"As a fellow business author, I rarely read anything in my own genre - but I make an exception for every one of Mike's books. I always go away feeling educated, challenged, and fired up to make improvements in my business. (I'm still not going to wear a vest, though.)" (Chris Guillebeau, author of The Money Tree and Side Hustle)
"Mike is a genius." (Don Miller, author of Building a Story Brand)
"Similar to the human body, a business has specific needs for it to grow healthily. Fix This Next explains the make-up of your business and how to pinpoint where its health it compromised." (JJ Virgin, author of The Virgin Diet)

This is the book you should start with first out of all his other books. This is the ‘hub’ book of you like.

Excellent book; the theory and the tools provide both insights and action steps to apply to your business.
I have read lots of these types of books but alway come away with lots of ideas but no concrete way to implement them. The addition resource and how -to steps are a key addition
Would recommend to read this book first before moving to his other books; this was the last book of his series I read, but all provide high value and fit together.

Full of side stories that deviate from the subject
After listening to this book I mostly remember all the side stories and not so much about what the hell this "Fix this next" was all about".
The author is using this book to sell every other book that he wrote and not giving anything new to this concept. In the end, this was all about how he helped other clients to implement concepts from other books, but the examples he comes with are so pointless and so hard to understand what the real implementation was about.
So if you have a business that is running but running badly, then you might get some points from this book, but mostly it's just random talk.
This book is sadly not worth the time or money.

Recommend getting the physical book on this one
I love listening to Mikes books because his narrating is so great, but this one covers too much to do it vocally with no handy aid and figuring out how to download the printables was harder for this book than the others.
I didn't feel like rewinding to find the correct URL and it's not stored in Mikes normal free resource list and the questions asked at fixthisnext.com turned me off.
Overall the framework seems solid (although it was hard to really do the assessment using audible). But I didn't gain a ton of insight since I have a framework of my own I use for myself and my clients.
That being said, if you don't have a framework and want to use one from a well established expert, give this one a try. It won't take you long and if you learn great things you didn't know before it's well worth it! And actually you don't even need to read the book, you can just do the assessment.
