About this listen

Nineteen-year-old Aleria Edlind has always known that her fire would make her a valiant Lady Fayharrow, but when all that she loves burns to the ground, that spark inside must carry her through its ashes.

Firebrand is a YA fantasy romance that whisks listeners off into a world of adventure, whimsy, and burning tension as Aleria collides with a group of fae warriors desperately searching for the cure to an ancient curse. When our spitfire heroine seems to be the key to unlocking those answers, she finds herself in a new land with new politics and a new man pretending not to steal glances in her direction.

Strap in for a magical tale with a little heat and a whole lot of heart as Brandi Gann weaves words as beautifully brassy and brazen as her protagonist. An entertaining, unassuming listen to cozy up with at a time when we all need a little escape.

Not only is this a great story that I’m itching to hear a sequel to, but the reading and performance is gorgeous. From the first few seconds I felt swept away into a vivid world with characters so alive I felt like I knew them intimately and every one of them so well voiced that you knew who they were before being told. Furthermore the production, music, sound really emphasised that this was no ordinary audiobook but a fully immersive experience that really did the authors beautiful writing justice. If you love fantasy, or if you’re just looking for an audiobook that feels more like an adventure, this one is a “must-listen”. It’s more than a story…it’s an experience that will leave you eagerly awaiting the next chapter.

Fabulous all round

I really enjoyed the narration of this book. Each character was easily differentiated either by accent or voice.

Story was interesting, the main character was strong and independent. It would be nice to read more about Mykhal to understand his character better. Story was rushed in some places and ending was rushed, but cliffhanger was a good setup for the next book. It would be great to hear more about the world building.

Narration was really good

This was a really good fantasy novel, especially for those who are relatively new to the genre (like myself). The romance element was not overwhelming as it is in other romantasy books so it was easy to get through it, and I enjoyed how the different parts of the story came together. My only wish would have been for the pacing to be a little quicker.
I listened to it as an audiobook and the narration was fantastic, with different accents and voices - I never got confused between characters and that's quite rare! I genuinely couldn't believe all the characters of the same gender were played by the same person.
Overall, I would definitely recommend.

Great novel, great narration

I love the readers' performances, especially the male performer who impressed me with the mastery of accents and characters' voices. Often I had to remind myself that it's one person doing all the characters. The lady reader was pretty decent too.

As for the book, this one's not for me. It can't seem to decide whether it's a weekend romance novel or a fantasy story. It seems to revert to erotica/romance whenever the story gets stuck, and I got a bit bored halfway through the book hearing about the main character's romantic musings. Less of that would have been better, for me adds nothing to the character development.

The story is OK, at times I couldn't get past the romantic interludes and confusing leaps of fantasy, but overall it kept me listening. The author can write but I would have preferred the story to be tighter and leaner on romance to keep me better engaged. Hopefully the next one will be more my cup of tea 🤞

The performance was superb, especially the male reader, and it kept me engaged through the dull bits.
