Summary

It's easy to wager everything when you have nothing to lose.

It's a hard life for a young mortal girl, living on the streets. After Lee Jia narrowly escapes a fate worse than death, her last ditch effort to flee her pursuers and survive the winter finds her accidentally enrolled in a brand-new academy for immortals. Now faced with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, Lee Jia will have to survive a violent roommate, arrogant young masters, and—worst of all—social hierarchies in order to carve out a place for herself in the world of magic, martial arts, and cultivation.

Join Lee Jia in a progression fantasy adventure about friendship, self-discovery, personal growth, and, of course, magical martial arts!

the details that the author goes into about how everything works is fantastic, you feel like your there exploring and discovering as the characters do

unappealing main character

Main character is the type that needs everyone else to be nice to her while she's completely antagonistic. Even if the setting prevents some of the characters from outright beating her up for her rudeness, the fact her great first impression skills don't leave her completely ostracized makes the people in the setting look like angels or more accurately, they feel forced to follow a script.

Besides that, there's not really any sense of progress or direction. I'm sure it's some people's cup of tea but completely random events isn't for me, especially when for the most part it's there to cover the main characters ineptitudes, including preventing her from dieing from offending everyone in her immediate area every chance she gets, or at other times conveniently offering way forward to the main character on a silver platter.

The geo political landscape is also conveniently put to the side. Everyone just decided to o create the perfect academy setting, for no gain, and that's the short and long of it.

I get the feeling a lot of the plot is meant to center around us feeling bad for the heroine and her partner because they're victims of some sort but it's poorly presented, and their sad people skills and sad strategic thinking is all that really sticks. Character will boast about being hardest worker one minute and be proudest peacock in all the land when it comes to action.
