About this listen
After fifteen years of tending goal for the Boston Rebels, I’m known for two things: the highest save percentage in the league, and never spending more than one night with the same woman.
I’m definitely not the guy you should trust with your best friend’s little sister. Especially not when that sister, Jules, is eight years younger and my new roommate.
When I witness her on the verge of a panic attack while being intimidated by another man, I don’t think twice about calling her my fiancée and kissing her. Which brings me to the third thing I’m known for: reckless and impulsive decision-making.
After a video of that steamy kiss goes viral, the whole world is convinced we’re engaged. If we don’t play along, I risk losing my place as the starting goalie for the Rebels, and Jules’s reputation and career could tank.
Our engagement may be fake, but the memories of the way she tastes, and the feel of her body wrapped around mine, are all too real. And the more time we spend together, the less it feels like pretending.
None of the secrets from my past seem to matter as much when I’m with her. It turns out, Jules may have some secrets of her own–and uncovering them just might be what heals me…or what finally breaks me.

Connor Crais and Stella Bloom was great for this story. Connor really brings our former playboy hockey goalie to life, and his flirtatious tone really makes you understand why Jules falls for the guy. At the same time he shows us the hurt and the protectiveness that lives deep in him. Stella captures the complexity of the strong, fierce, but at the same time vulnerable Jules. She captures the hesitation, hurt and pain Jules tries so hard to mask.

I absolutely love a good Brother’s Best Friend romance & Colt & Jules’ story doesn’t disappoint.
I absolutely love how swoony Colt is, he is such a sweet and caring guy, he is there for Jules to help her work through so many struggles, he protects her, encourages her, & does everything he can to make sure she always feels safe & happy.
His absolute love & adoration for her is absolutely incredible.
This was full of passion, chemistry, love, banter & family.

This was very much a slow burn romance between Jules and Colt, her brother's best friend and the object of her childhood/teenage crush. Their relationship morphed after one night in Vegas and she has done everything she could to avoid him for the past 6 years. This is your typical fake relationship story with added angst and a slow burn romance. I did appreciate Colt's character and the transformation he was already undergoing, that allowed him to realize his feeling for Jules. I love the side characters and the family support Jules has. It was a sweet romance that got a little hot toward the end.
These are two of the best narrators out there. Both are phenomenal when it comes to voicing multiple characters. The emotions were portrayed beautifully and brought so much life to this story. Listening to this series on audio has been a pleasure and I can't wait for the next one to release.

🎧📚🎧 Connor Crais and Stella Bloom were the perfect cast to bring these characters to life, and they did an amazing job portraying them, giving each a voice that was fitting and believable. Crais nailed it as Colt, showcasing his personality and demeanor perfectly, and Bloom did the same as Jules and was just as fabulous. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. Their pacing was great, and they handled the banter and witty dialogue effortlessly. These two made a great team, their voices and talent complemented each other and their performance elevated this already amazing story to another level. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another fabulous listen.

This was my second Julia Connors book (and the second in this series) and now she's on my list of authors to binge read. She writes such complex, multi-layered characters who love deeply and support each other and it just warms my heart to read them.
Colt and Jules are loveable characters and so perfect for each other. I loved the way Colt protected her and cared for her, even when he was denying his feelings for her.
Fake relationship is one of my favourite tropes along with forced proximity, and I love how the characters were forced to confront their feelings for each other and stop making excuses to keep them from being truly happy. Found family is another one of my favourite tropes and this book has it in spades. Jameson, Jules and Audrey have essentially lost both parents, but they've made a family that's more loving and supportive than the one they had with their parents, and i really enjoyed seeing that.
This book is a slow burn, but the tension is palpable, and when the spice hits, it's fire.
I loved the narration. Connor Crais is one of my favourite narrators and Stella Bloom is new to me (I think). I loved their portrayal of both main characters - their strength and their vulnerability.
* If you've read the two books in this series and you're curious about Jameson and Lauren's story, theirs is One The Line, the last book in the Frozen Hearts Series.
**I received an advance copy from Wordsmith Publicity. These opinions are entirely my own.
Fun, steamy and heartfelt
