After fifteen years of tending goal for the Boston Rebels, I’m known for two things: the highest save percentage in the league, and never spending more than one night with the same woman.

I’m definitely not the guy you should trust with your best friend’s little sister. Especially not when that sister, Jules, is eight years younger and my new roommate.

When I witness her on the verge of a panic attack while being intimidated by another man, I don’t think twice about calling her my fiancée and kissing her. Which brings me to the third thing I’m known for: reckless and impulsive decision-making.

After a video of that steamy kiss goes viral, the whole world is convinced we’re engaged. If we don’t play along, I risk losing my place as the starting goalie for the Rebels, and Jules’s reputation and career could tank.

Our engagement may be fake, but the memories of the way she tastes, and the feel of her body wrapped around mine, are all too real. And the more time we spend together, the less it feels like pretending.

None of the secrets from my past seem to matter as much when I’m with her. It turns out, Jules may have some secrets of her own–and uncovering them just might be what heals me…or what finally breaks me.

Ah! This story had all the goodies! A swoony, protective, reformed playboy cinnamon roll hero and a strong, inspiring, funny, caring heroine, age gap, brothers best friend, teach me 🫦 he falls first, forced proximity! This goodie bag had it all! I liked Center Ice, but I LOVED Fake Shot. The way these two come together was so natural and beautiful. And when Colt went full on protective he is so so swoony 😍

Narrators
Connor Crais and Stella Bloom was great for this story. Connor really brings our former playboy hockey goalie to life, and his flirtatious tone really makes you understand why Jules falls for the guy. At the same time he shows us the hurt and the protectiveness that lives deep in him. Stella captures the complexity of the strong, fierce, but at the same time vulnerable Jules. She captures the hesitation, hurt and pain Jules tries so hard to mask.

This was such a sweet and swoony romance!
I absolutely love a good Brother’s Best Friend romance & Colt & Jules’ story doesn’t disappoint.

I absolutely love how swoony Colt is, he is such a sweet and caring guy, he is there for Jules to help her work through so many struggles, he protects her, encourages her, & does everything he can to make sure she always feels safe & happy.
His absolute love & adoration for her is absolutely incredible.
This was full of passion, chemistry, love, banter & family.

Whilst this is the second book in the series, I started with Fake Shot and feel like I didn't lose out on much from missing Drew and Audrey's book (Centre Ice) - though it does give spoilers for their story.

Jules and Colt's story was such a fun listen. It's the epitome of a slow burn romance, despite the characters having known each other for years, and I love that as we move further through the narrative, we learn more about the two's true feelings towards each other - especially once you throw in the fake engagement. (Seriously, I'm a sucker for that trope).

Colt is an (ex) playboy hockey goalie, which when we learn more of his story, you begin to understand how he is that way. There's so much depth to his character, and I loved as more of him was revealed to us - and did I mention that filthy AF mouth he has? Jesus, chapter 37 was just *melt*.

Jules is an FMC I absolutely love. She is, for want of a better word, a true girl boss, carving her path in a male dominated industry, and is in the midst of creating a not-for-profit to help other females who want to pursue their dreams within similar areas. Her overall growth through the book was amazing to listen to.

Crais and Bloom were honestly the perfect choice of casting for this one. They bring their incredibly story-telling skill to the plate, injecting all the right emotions into the roles they play. Bloom perfectly captured both the strength and the vulnerability of Jules through each scene, and Crais truly brought Colt to life, capturing his protective nature and voicing him to perfection. Together, their dialogue and banter were spot on, and their teamwork elevated this story to a new level. There was a point I didn't want the story to end, I got so lost in the narration.

For a book that's filled with fun, swoony romance, laugh out loud moments and the most delicious of slow burns, this was a phenomenal listen.

Amazing hockey romance

I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook, Fake shot is narrated by Connor Crais and Stella Bloom.

When I started this series, I fell in love with Jules Flynn, she was super strong and independent but getting her own book opened a whole new door to see behind the scenes, when I started listening to audiobooks Stella was the first female narrator I encountered so whenever I see her name on something new I know the audiobook is going to amazing and yes it was!

I just finished listening to Slap Shot Surprise by Melanie Harlow and to get another book narrated by Connor Crais, makes me believe Julia chose the correct narrators to bring Colt and Jules to life!

This was an incredible slow slow burn, but it needed it!

I wouldn't say this book has trigger warnings, but there are a few things in this book that requires sensitivity and what Julia does beautifully, she starts the book off with a very powerful prologue, brings it around to present day and lets the story out gradually.

And that ending, could it have been any more beautiful!

Fantastic
