Some people might call it a grudge, but in reality, hating Alessandra Jones is more like an obsession. AJ is the league’s first female general manager, and my boss. Getting involved wouldn’t just be a PR nightmare—it would be unethical. It doesn’t help that we have a history, or that she and my daughter adore each other.

When AJ is injured protecting my baby, there’s no choice but to move her into my place. Taking care of someone I hate shouldn’t feel so right. Getting to know her better shouldn’t break down my defenses. She’s hurt me once before, and I’d be a fool to trust her again. But the more time we spend together, the more I realize that maybe I’m not obsessed with hating her...maybe I’m just obsessed with her.

Cross-Checked is the book 3 in the Boston Rebels series. Having read all the previous books within this series (including the Novella), I was obviously soo excited when this audiobook came out. This is a reverse age-gap, enemies to lovers/hate to love, single dad, workplace (she’s his boss), sports romance. AJ and Ronan have some history, they met years ago at Ronan’s old team. In current times, they do not get along. AJ is the hockey league’s first female general manager and Ronan’s boss. Not only can they not stand each in private, but with Ronan currently under contract negotiations, things are extra tense with them. They also accidentally end up as neighbours. When AJ gets injured at a game protecting Ronan’s daughter, he feels obliged to help her. And as they live next to each other, she ends up temporarily moving in with him and then sparks fly. This obviously proves very complicated; she’s his boss, he’s currently under contract negotiations. Plus, shes up for the league’s GM of the Year award. Getting involved with a player wouldn’t just be a PR nightmare for her, it would be unethical.

This was just a joy to listen to. AJ and Ronan were just so good together. AJ was such a badass, and Ronan was an undercover sweetheart lol. I loved seeing them get their second chance at love, AJ bonding with Ronan’s daughter, and even the bit about AJ’s experiences as a female GM in the league proved interesting. This story was awesome for sure!

Sebastian York and Angelina Rocca brought the story and these characters to life. Their performances were just excellent!

Cross-Checked is book 3 in this series and another wonderful story by Julia Connors. I listened to the Audiobook which is a really Amazing listen and perfectly narrated by Sebastian York and Angelina Rocca...They have both done a fabulous performance acting out all the characters in this story between them..and of course the main Male and Female characters A.J...and Ronan Mccabe. I loved listening to both actors telling me this story it enhanced the story and added to the emotions in the book making me feel them. It is a great Audiobook. This book is a complicated one because we have a forbidden romance,a workplace,enemies to lovers Hockey romance between A.J and Mccabe.. The reason it is s complicated is because A.J is the G.M For the Boston Rebels and Mccabe is the Captain to the Boston Rebels. Falling in love with one another was so unexpected and NOT what anyone seen coming because they basically HATE eachother. They have history that involved Mccabe punching A.J's husband and Mccabe being traded to the Boston Rebels. Little did they both know that A.J ends up working for the Rebels as well and the hostility between them is evident. Ronan Mccabe is a single dad and struggling to cope with a 9/10 month old girl and his Hockey career his nanny is unrelieble and the rebels have yet to renew his contract.He is in the middle o negotiating his future and so has a lot going on.The last thing he needs is his attraction to A.J. to start showing again...now she is his boss and his neighbour. A.J. is a badass lady boss making a name for herself and making the Rebels a successful team..Being a woman in what is deemed as a mans job,she is surprised to learn she has been nominated for an award...G.M. Of the Year...A.J is paving the way for other woman to become more involved in Hockey and so it means alot to her. There is alot happening in this book with the nanny situation,A.J breaking her wrist,her brother taking care of baby Abby,betrayal with the contract negotiations,A.J living with mccabe because of her broken wrist...Ex hubby drama,..etc etc all contribute to A.J and McCabe falling in love. him falling hard and fast first it is A.J. who is standoffish...but when they cross the line it is explosive and feels right. This story is so steamy and really sweet baby Abby is adorable and adds cuteness to the story I loved and enjoyed listening to it.The writing by Julia is perfect. 5 stars.

I really liked AJ and I was rooting for her and McCabe. AJ is a true workaholic and I loved how the changes within her character came from her wanting more rather than as a reaction to something going on in her professional life. Although there is an antagonist towards the end, she is treated with respect throughout by the team and her colleagues which was really refreshing for a story which centres around her being the first female GM and the expectations she placed on herself. This series really gives off found family vibes in spades and all the connections feel so genuine. I was expecting the story to have a little more angst as there are some heavier themes from both AJ's and McCabe's past but I was thrilled at how these two were all in once they made the leap (even if they didn't realise it!). The set up to book four has me so intrigued too - what a perfect tease to end on!

Sebastian York and Angelina Rocca are always a pleasure to listen to and hearing them in duet just added an extra dimension to the audiobook. The sparks are flying everywhere when their bickering evolves into banter and then in the spicier scenes later. Rocca really brings a warmth to AJ and York plays grumpy alpha male so well but he'll melt your heart in all the scenes with Abby!

4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series
5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely until I finished it and it is one I will re-read

This is my first Julia Connors book, but it definitely wont be my last.
AJ, the first female General Manager in a professional hockey league, is a fierce and competent leader in a male-dominated industry. However, her rebellious and prickly player, Rowan McCabe, tests her patience at every turn. As a single dad, McCabe also struggles to juggle childcare for his daughter, Abby, alongside his demanding career on the ice.

I especially appreciated AJ’s nurturing relationship with Abby and admired McCabe’s dedication as a father. His respect for AJ’s authority and unwavering support of her as a powerful, accomplished woman added depth to the story. The blend of sweetness and passion created a heart-warming yet spicy read, evoking the comforting feel of a cosy hug.
