About this listen

What if The Gladiator smashed into The Highlander, and then careened into Jason Bourne?

You would get The Last Roman: Exile. Some debts you cannot repay, even if you live forever. Seasoned imperial officer Marcus Sempronius Gracchus leads the 9th Roman Legion into a bloody battle against a fierce barbarian tribe. It's a battle he won't survive. When he awakens three days later, clawing his way from a shallow grave, Marcus must face the reality of his new existence. He will never see the afterlife...but that won't stop him from dying time and again over the next 2,000 years.

Marcus is not the only one cursed with eternal life. Forced to confront the only brother he has ever known, can Marcus prevent the inevitable and find redemption? Together they are determined to bring the world crashing to its knees.

Follow the story of a man who should be dead, as he tries to save the world...and his soul.

Includes bonus story

Monsoon.

a little overloaded with pulp action and dialogue. however I will purchase the second book in the series as the premise is good and hopefully will be well expanded in further installments.

excellent premise

While I enjoyed the story I did find the characters relentless gloom depressing and took away from my enjoyment.

An interesting idea

I really wanted to enjoy this. liked the concept and settled down in the hopes of a great story, or even the beginnings of one.
sadly, it was neither great, nor the beginning of something great.
there really was nothing new in this book, its been done before and much better.
at times it didn't seem to know where it was going. it also became very formulaic.
the narration was not good. appalling attempts at accents, which the narrator just didn't pull off...best not to try.
disappointing and will not be looking any further in this series.

I'll pass on the rest

Had I realised there was too much of Christianity for my liking I wouldn’t have wasted a credit. I liked the idea of characters being unable to die and taking three days to recover from each death, but the whole Christian taint of the narrative spoiled it for me, as an atheist. At least there was a foul Cardinal to bump off but I shan’t listen to future instalments. I had a deal of sympathy for Thomas and was very pleased with his despatch of the Crusaders. The narrator Peter Noble isn’t one of my favourites but is pleasant to listen to.

Disappointing
