  • Summary

  • The Queen is dead, long live the King. On the occasion of Edward Vll’s coronation, we look back at his life as spoilt child, curious adolescent and womanizing princely glutton. There’s a bizarre secret behind those early motion pictures of a new and rotund monarch.

Heavens, I must be tone-deaf for I have no ...

No recollection of hearing any music! And I loved the 12 episodes, even though I remain with a slight preference for Victorian Secrets. Stephen Fry is outstanding as usual. Thanks Audible for this free audiobook.

Informative and entertaining

I loved listening to this, Stephen Fry is just fabulous, makes you want to listen, along with other narrators.
Lots of history information in a fun way.
Unlike others, I loved the music addition, added to the theatre of the storytelling.

Brilliant

So interesting, and Stephen is such a great narrator. A collection of different historians take on the era. Really good 👍

Fantastic story telling that leaves you hooked

Absolutely beautifully presented history, that feels like the most gregarious piece of fiction. Stephen Fry delivers faultlessly as always.

Edwardian Britain (inc Victorian)

Extremely interesting. Stephen Fry is a superb narrator. Erudite commentary, atmospheric background effects etc all add to the listeners pleasure. I would love to purchase a good quality book with illustrations & photographs in addition to the story.

As it’s title suggests

Not nearly as warm, endearing or enlightening as the Victorian series. Stephen Fry is, as always, peerless but for me this series is too focussed on racism, sexism, equality, anti imperialism etc. These topics are not handled with the same light touch of the Victorian series and frankly became a bit of a lecture. Fine if that’s what you’re seeking but for me it doesn’t have the warmth and fun I’d hoped.

Annoying Music

Distracting and irritating music throughout, useless, binned it after 10 mins. A shame the bits I could here sounded interesting. Obviously produced by silly children who have to contaminate everything with bloody Muzak

background music

Too much background music. I abandoned it during the first episode. it's a shame since I enjoyed the content.
