Summary

An agent broken.

MI6 agent Damon Knight prided himself on always being in control. His missions were executed with cold, calculating precision. His club, The Garden, was run with an equally ordered and detached decadence. But his perfect world was shattered by one bullet, fired from the gun of his former partner. That betrayal almost cost him his life and ruined his career. His handlers want him to retire, threatening to revoke his license to kill if he doesn't drop his obsession with a shadowy organization called The Collective. To earn their trust, he has to prove himself on a unique assignment with an equally unusual partner.

A woman tempted.

Penelope Cash has spent her whole life wanting more. More passion. More adventure. But duty has forced her to live a quiet life. Her only excitement is watching the agents of MI6 as they save England and the world. Despite her training, she's only an analyst. The closest she is allowed to danger and intrigue is in her dreams, which are often filled with one Damon Knight. But everything changes when the woman assigned to pose as Damon's submissive on his latest mission is incapacitated. Penny is suddenly faced with a decision. Stay in her safe little world or risk her life, and her heart, for Queen and country.

An enemy revealed.

With the McKay-Taggart team at their side, Damon and Penny hunt an international terrorist across the great cities of Northern Europe. Playing the part of her Master, Damon begins to learn that under Penny's mousy exterior is a passionate submissive, one who just might lay claim to his cold heart. But when Damon's true enemy is brought out of the shadows, it might be Penny who pays the ultimate price.

Superb

After reading and rereading all of the Master and Mercenaries books I have decided that in spite of my love of Ian and Charlie I adore Damon and Penny, he is so damaged and so scared of loving Penny but incapable of not loving her, the part where he declares that he will "date" her and have a vanilla relationship thinking she cannot handle a D/s one is so moving.

Great story line if you can shut out the "British accent"

Story was ok but it took me a while to tune out the appalling version of a British accent. This spoilt what was otherwise good narration

Loved the Accents

I enjoy listening to this series. This is Damon and Penelope's story. Once again, you have a couple where he says something and she hears something else. Then she says something, and he hears something different. Makes for a lot of angst, confusion, and apologies.

Damon and Penny were ok, but they didn't do much for me. I didn't get the sense of a real connection between them.

The Taggert McCay team is so much more entertaining. Ian and Char still top my list as the best couple. Simon, Jesse, Alex, and Jake are truly witty. Eve, Avery, Serena were not an active part of this book. We got to see Chelsea's walls coming down just a bit. She wasn't quite as obnoxious as she was in the previous book.

I could not decide if Penelope ever picked up on the fact that Bash was a crazy stalker and if he couldn't have Damon, no one would; or, did she just think the mission was some type of competition Bash wanted to have with Damon? I underst old Penelope was concerned about Bash killing Damon, but she seemed to chalk it all up to the mission.

The narration was good. Once again we were treated to several different accents.

I honestly was hoping that Penny got another chance to run her new relationship into her relatives faces. Or, I wish we had gotten a little more story about Damon and Penelope after the mission was all said and done.o

There was plenty of action, suspense, some romance, and sexy times. There were a couple of situations I thought were not completely resolved, but maybe it was just me. Oh well, in to Simon and Chelsea's book.

Misunderstanding that lingers... predictable

By now, we all know how all the books end with HEAs, so they become quite predictable. And, when Penelope thinks Damon would share her with others, all the misunderstandings begin. There's lots of action in this book.

The narration is good but at times Penelope sounded quite masculine.

Overall, it's seems to be like others... same old same old... it's an average book.

Enjoy!

A great listen/read!

I started this book in audio and found the narration great, Ryan West was a wonderful narrator and kept my commute enjoyable. It was so enjoyable that I had to find out what happened and it being 13 hours long I switched to reading the book once I got home. I am a much faster reader than listener lol.

I loved the chemistry between Penny and Damon. They are definitely opposites but what they give to the other is exactly what they need. I do not read a lot of BDSM books lately so I have not had a chance to read the previous books but I felt this one was on the lighter side and I really enjoyed it.

The action, suspense, drama, chemistry was all intense and was so fun to listen/read. There were actually a few scenes that had my laughing out loud.

Overall a great read, I am actually pretty interested in reading Simon and Chelsea’s story next.

so funny at times

I loved this book it was so funny at times the only thing that threw me off was the narrator tried a little too hard with the accents but otherwise it was fantastic
