Summary

Join the adventure in this well-loved series. The boxed set includes all five books - the complete set!

Ancient Magic

Cass Clereaux is good at two things: finding treasure and killing demons. Lying low is a close third - but not because she wants to be good at hiding. Cass is a FireSoul, one of the unlucky few to inherit a piece of the dragon's soul. On the surface, the perks are sweet - she has the power to find and steal any type of magical treasure, including the powers of other supernaturals.

But it doesn't come without a price - stealing powers requires that she kill, and others would destroy her if they discover what she is. In a world full of magic, hiding her powers is the only way to survive. Finding magical artifacts is the only way to pay the bills. But it's a dangerous job when you can't use your magic.

When Aidan Merrick, the most powerful shifter in the city, hires her to find an ancient scroll, she doesn't want to take the job. His immense amount of power reminds her of too much of murky memories from a past she can't remember. But she has no choice. The scroll will reveal what she is. And if anyone finds out, she's dead.

The boxed set includes four more books - Mirror Mage, Stolen Magic, Eternal Magic, & Infinite Magic - that follow Cass as she battles demons from her past and tries to keep the world from going down the toilet.

Ancient Magic features kick butt heroines, a hot hero, and otherworldly adventure.

Nice attempt at accent but....

I love the story so far. Being a UK native the setting based mainly in Ireland and Scotland the attempt at an accent is great but not accurate. I would expect a Devonian "connor and claire" to have a westcountry accent not a posh one. We can tell the difference. Overall loving the tale though.

Not Convincing

Full of cheesy phrases, quite shallow and definitely only for the very young sci-fi audience. Often found the story dragging and the main character irritating at times.

Boxed Set

Five audio books for one credit, what's not to like. It is a well written story that keeps you invested from beginning to end. I love these characters and how they all fit together so well

Don't miss out due to the narration!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Every time I listen to an audible book, I have to force myself to get used to a new narrator. Laurel Schroeder's narration of this series consists of a dry, sharp narration. It's hard to describe but I promise if you stick with it, you will begin to appreciate her style.
The story has some great elements of science fiction, action, quirky humor, friendship, and romance. It can get a tad predictable in parts but still enjoyable. I am currently on book 11! I chose the series because it has a lot of books in the series that are already on audible. No waiting for the next to come out. I love stories with strong women characters.

What did you like best about this story?

This particular story (the box set) focuses on the mysterious past of the three main characters with one of them in the forefront. Through Cass' eyes, we get a feel for the relationship that she has with her chosen sisters and the inner strength that these three display in the face of adversity.

What does Laurel Schroeder bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Through all of the books, she is consistent in her presentation of the characters-voices, accents, and inflection. She reads pretty dry but places emotion where it fits best. I think, in a lot of ways, her style allows for the listener to create their own version of these characters much like we would if we were to read the story ourselves.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Love this series!

I actually discovered this series because I received a review copy of Dragons Gift: The Valkyrie Book 1, which is book 15 or 16 of the Dragons Gift series. They are all written as stand alones but I absolutely loved the Valkyrie book 1 so I decided to come back and start at the beginning. I was not disappointed! The first books in the series are just as awesome as the newer books. Hall has created an amazing world full of magic, adventure and interesting and endearing characters. Laurel Schroeder, one of my favorite narrators, has done an outstanding job bringing those characters to life and giving each a unique voice. I can't wait to listen to the next set of books in the series!!!

Wow

Linsey truly did an amazing job with this series. I fell in love with Cass and The others. I’m so excited to dive into the other books following Cass’s books. Linsey did Cass justice and I am sure she will do amazingly with the other girls. I wasn’t sure if I was ready to read this series at first but I am so glad I did. This is definitely a much read if you love adventure and magic with plenty of climax’s built in.

Pulls you in from the beginning

I was fortunate enough to review this book and I’m very happy I did. This series pulls you in from the beginning and was a very enjoyable read/listen. I rarely read fantasy and I’m very glad I gave this series a chance.

Fun, unique series! A complete series!

I listened to this series with Audible, and I think the narrator did a good job. She's a little one note, but she gave a solid performance. This boxset is all 5 books in the Huntress series, and I loved having the option to listen to all the books with one credit! It's a very long audio, but it was great to just jump right into the next book. There was a bit too much repetition at times, but each book was a fun, enjoyable read. Each book is from Cass' POV, and has a storyline the goes throughout the whole series, but each book has its own secondary storyline. Lots of action and adventure, which I love! Plus, tons of magic use and a sweet romance. The writing is a little basic, but I love the uniqueness. I reviewed each book individually on Amazon, and they all got 4 stars. With each book, Cass grows and matures. She's a tough cookie, and all her magic skills are awesome. Fun series! Definitely worth 1 credit! It looks like Cass' sisters also have a 5 book series, so I'll definitely listen to those! It'll be great to see the story evolve for each of them, and see what everyone is up to. I'm definitely looking forward to Del's books because they deal with the Underworld, which is always fun to read about!

There is adventure, romance and some mystery!

There was ever changing adventure with a touch a romance but it was tasteful nothing trashy. There is just enough mystery to keep you looking for the next book!

Worth the money or credit!

This series a lot of fun. It keeps your interest and isn't too repeative. If you are looking for a YA romance, action, strong female lead book then this is for you! The action in this book could easily make a great movie or show! I will warn you, the beginning is a bit slow and I can't remember how long it was slow for but I can't imagine it was long. Once it picks up speed it doesn't stop. Side note. I enjoyed the authors notes and learning why she made the main character the way she did. Happy listening.
