It was looking like Lady Luck had quite a grudge against him. In fact, at this point merely crashing the multi-billion-dollar ship he had helped design would have felt like winning the lottery compared to his current dilemma. If only he were so lucky. Summary
Charlie thought building a spaceship had been tough, so being king should be a piece of cake. Unfortunately, it was like a cake made of cement. Hard to swallow, and just might kill him.
It was good being king, or so Charlie had believed. After an abrupt crash arrival, people had finally stopped trying to kill him - for the most part, anyway - and his new subjects respected him. Or feared him. It was sort of hard to tell, what, with the ginormous dragon who had eaten the previous king standing right behind him.
In any case, Charlie was now ruling this realm as best he knew how. And it all seemed to be going well. But he worried it wouldn’t last, and just his luck, word of a strange new threat soon reached his ears. A threat that might even have a bit of magic on their side. Of course, that was impossible on this non-magical world, but he had begun to accept that the impossible seemed to follow him wherever he went, like a hungry dog lurking in his shadow.
Faced with an unseen enemy, Charlie had to not only keep his friends safe, but the people who looked up to King Charlie as well. It was going to be a hell of a task, and the spaceman from Earth only hoped he was up for the challenge.

Charlie's saga continues
I was given a copy of this audiobook by the author in exchange for a fair review. If you have read books 1 and 2 of this series, well you will know what to expect. If you haven't, well why on earth would you start at book 3? The story picks up shortly after the finale of book 2, with Charlie installed as King of an un-named place which I assumed to be vaguely Arthurian in nature and location. The story is arguably a little slow to get going as the scene is set, but once it gets going you have all the excitement, magic and adventure we've come to expect from a Charlie story. (view spoiler) The plot maybe doesn't stand up to close scrutiny, but that's fine, we're here to enjoy the ride. As is becoming traditional the book ends with an intriguing set up for the next book.

Enjoyable series
This is the type of SF books I used to read in the 80s, Not overly taxing but enjoyable and light. I would say they a would be better aimed at the young adult market. I liked the narrator and the books get better through the series. One negative is that the scenes can jump around a little, and feel that they have been edited down from larger text, e.g. some fights start and instantly end as if a dozen paragraphs have been cut out to shorten the book.

Bad
You couldn’t tell if Bob or Charlie were talking. Bad narrator. Kinda fun idea for a story terrible execution. Created tons of loose ends when there were already tons in play. Is this guys publisher not giving him enough time between books? There seems to be a lot of convenience writing going on. Like this is a bad situation but lucky it will all turnout good. With little to no struggle. Very predictable writing. Very over written. Idk who you have proof reading these but if they are wearing shimmer cloaks you don’t need to state that every few seconds. Using this review on both book 3 and 4. Because I have similar thoughts.

Another awesome entry in the series!
I absolutely adore the way Scott Baron tells a story, and the world he has created is beyond immersive. A lot of books these days get hung up on shock factor. They try to figure out some new way to keep you on your toes and subvert your expectations, often sacrificing continuity in storytelling to deliver shock out of nowhere. This series is different. Sure, there are twists and turns and plot devices like any other science fiction or fantasy piece. But where other books may stall with filler then deliver the bulk of the story in the form of an waterfall, the Dragon Mage series is a meandering brook, flowing the reader through the story organically and with natural purpose. Baron's writing and Bennett's narration are a perfect match for each other, and I look forward with eager anticipation to the next entry in the series.

Some of my first sci fi reading that I truly enjoyed were the Pern books, they brought me to a very interesting and relatable place with a driving story arc this has a very similar feel of awe and new with more action and character involvement. If you enjoy sci fi/fantasy these books will not be a waste.

A bit of a breather of a book
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. TLDR; It's pretty common to have lulls in the action of a book before you start ramping back up the action, this book is a bit of a lull in the action. I fell like the TLDR makes this book sound bad, it's not, but it is a change in pace from the rest of the series. We get introduced to some time-travel in this book and the outcome is a more Fantasy oriented book, rather than Sci-Fi. Until the end, the end is a kick right back into high-gear. Overall, I'd call this the slowest book in the series, still a lot of fun, and it gives a chance to expand on some characters that would be hard to do without this breather.
