Summary

Destroying city blocks, battling heroes, and working toward a sinister master plan...all part and parcel of Doctor Dire's day. But when unexpected interference from a time-travelling enemy throws her back in time, she finds herself up against an evil more vile than she could ever be. It's Dire versus the Third Reich, and the poor Nazi bastards have no idea what they're in for!

Meanwhile, back in present day, Dire's friends and allies must scramble to fend off both heroes and villains, while trying to assemble the means to return Dire to her proper time. Can the motley team of society's rejects withstand the stress without Dire to aid them?

The Doctor and her teammates have a hard road to travel, and before it's done, the darkest secrets of Doctor Dire shall finally be revealed...with fatal consequences.

Just when you thought it couldn't get more...

I am not sure which is more awesome, kicking nazi ass or casually wrecking the-fragile-women trope 'Iron Man' style.

Wow

I was not expecting the ending at all. Original, completely insane/sane and wonderful/horrible. Like Dire.

Not sure how I feel about the ending and what it implies about the later books. I'm not sure I want to hear Dire go through that again. Dire is tough and all but is she tough enough? Am I? I pitty Dire. Regardless, I will be buying the next book. I'm not sure if a sequel even makes sense at this point. Too many unknowns are eplained. I'm not sure there is enough left to do. She punched Hitler afterall.

The narration is perfect, I couldn't ask for more.

1 of the best maybe the best super powered books

I read maybe 75 books a year and listen to 75 to 100 books a year and the dire series is 1 of the best books I heard in 2018 not just in these type of genre but in all . Character's well fleshed out really gives u the feels for 1 super awesome anti hero but you actually care for all characters from the start of book 1 and there is not a more perfect narrator to have these book . Amy McFadden just nailed every character's every accent and all emotion good and bad emotions came threw in here voice no matter which voice she done it really almost seemed like there was a handful of women and a handful of men doing all the characters . I'm so so ready for the. ext 3 books to come out . But do not make the mistake and change narrator I dont think I could lusten

Dire *Sigh 😞

Started listening to this series when it first popped into my recommended list. Loved it right off the bat; Dire was interesting, funny, and you have to admit that referring to herself in third person is funny as hell. The third book went off well and I totally enjoyed it and then came the end of the book. I honestly have no idea what Andrew was thinking when he was writing this but it completely and utterly destroyed this series for me. I won't say anything to spoil the story for others but I was so p***ed at the end that I plan on returning the three books I have bought and not even glance at this series again. Authors that do this sort of thing get put on my blacklist of authors to never read again.

The one thing I won't complain about is Amy McFadden, she did a wonderful job and I enjoy the work she puts into the books she does.

Ruined by the ending

I’ve loved this series but this book felt different. Without spoiling it for you, there’s a twist at the end and it ruined the story for me.

Ending doesn't suck, just a twist with cliffhanger

So the book is really great and really on brand up until the end. And then the end is like an über twist. With a cliffhanger so Grand, they had to hire a Dire-like construction crew to build the ledge that far out.

It's good. I'd recommend it. I'll buy the next one. Might come back and tell you to just not bother, but as of right now, I'm curious where the author is going to go, and how they are going to resolve certain story arcs.

irritating

The story was good right up to the ending, then it got so vague, so convoluted, and so deliberately obtuse that it ruined the whole series for me.
Without giving away any spoilers it went something like this, "So we are going to explain not only Dire's background, we are going to explain why all this horrible stuff just happened." says a character.
"Ok then explain it." says another.
Then they did, and it made perfect sense.

HOWEVER, THIS IS LITERALLY WHAT WAS WRITTEN. They never do tell you what, why, or how. They do some vague "I can't tell you because of timelines." doublespeak and some frankly soap opera like reveals (Oh it was really YOU all the time!) and leave every character's fate not only unresolved but so irritatingly obtuse that it has to be the author's desire to piss people off.
i understand the point of a cliff hanger, and I'm ok with it. But this just looks like the author decided they was tired of the story and wanted to wrap it up in the most convoluted and ridiculous way possible.
