Story
As a guild bartender, I can handle pretty much anything - mages, sorcerers, witches, the occasional demon. But show me anything family-related and I'd rather run for the hills. It doesn't even have to be my family. So I have no idea why I thought spending the holidays with Aaron's mom and pop was a good idea. Meeting his famous parents is already terrifying enough, but I've got a bigger problem. Students of his family's renowned mage academy are being attacked on the grounds - and somehow no one has seen a single assailant?

Story
When I arrived at my uncle's house, I expected my relatives to be like me - outcast sorcerers who don't practice magic. I was right about the sorcery, but wrong about everything else. Rule two: Don't listen to the demon. My uncle chose a far deadlier power. He calls creatures of darkness into our world, binds them into service contracts, and sells them to the highest bidder. And I'm supposed to act like I don't know how illegal and dangerous it is. Rule three: Don't talk to the demon. All I had to do was keep my nose out of it.

Welcome to The Slaughtered Lamb Bookstore and Bar. I'm Sam Quinn, the werewolf book nerd in charge. I run my business by one simple rule: Everyone needs a good book and a stiff drink, be they vampire, wicche, demon, or fae. No wolves, though. Ever. I serve the supernatural community of San Francisco. We've been having some problems lately. Okay, I'm the one with the problems. The broken body of a female werewolf washed up on my doorstep. What makes sweat pool at the base of my spine, though, is realizing the scars she bears are identical to the ones I conceal.

Some people are ordained for greatness. Those people usually have a lot of drama in their life. Drama I happily do without. I live in a forgotten corner of nowhere for a reason: there is safety in anonymity. I have enough problems just trying to get by. But when Kieran, a sinfully sexy demigod at the pinnacle of power, crashes into my life, suddenly my whole world is turned upside down. He’s harboring a deadly secret, one that could destroy all he holds dear. He thinks I’m the key to his salvation, and he wants me to help him claim vengeance. He also wants me with a passion.

In a world of darkness where royal vampires are in charge, I spend my days working as a knight in the city formerly known as London. Instead of a lance and a horse, I rely on my trusty axe, Babe, and ride the occasional dragon. Every day, new threats emerge that require a dash of magic and a dollop of attitude. Naturally, danger comes with the territory. What no one knows is just how dangerous it is for me. If our vampire overlords discover what I am, they’ll execute me on the spot — no questions asked — which is why I avoid them at all costs. Until now.

Summary
When I first landed a bartending job at the local guild, I didn't know a thing about magic. These days, I'm practically an expert on the different magical classes, but there's one nobody ever talks about: Demonica.
Turns out they have a good reason for that. My guild is strictly hellion-free, because who wants to risk life and limb to control the biggest bullies on the mythic playground?
Well, some people do, and now a demon has been loosed in the city. My three best friends are determined to slay it, but even badass combat mages are critically out-magicked. And that's not all. The monster they're tracking-it's not hiding. It's not fleeing. It's not leaving a trail of corpses everywhere it goes.
The demon is hunting too. And in a city full of mythics, it's searching for deadlier prey.
If we can't unravel the demon's sinister motivations, more innocent people will die, but finding the answers means digging into dark secrets...and learning truths I never wanted to know.
Make sure to check out the companion series, The Guild Codex: Demonized, available now, and The Guild Codex: Warped, coauthored by Rob Jacobsen.

Finally some progress with the romance!
After reading three whole books with misleading romantic interests, we finally get a bit of progress with the actual "end game" romance (I hope!). I don't particularly enjoy main characters who have serial relationships. Not that Tori has lots of relationships...just that there are so many hot guys constantly trying to help her, I think it gets quite confusing. The progress with the main romantic interest is nice and slow, and I do get strong platonic vibes from the guy sometimes, which might be the point...the main thing is that Tori is finally falling in love!!!

Brilliant
Oh my goodness where do I start!! This book was of course amazing as always. It was as always full of action, attraction/romance, the humour and sarcasm as funny as ever, the story moved along brilliantly with plenty of twist to make sure you never know what’s coming next and kept it exciting the whole way through. But more than that is was THE BOOK that one book in the series where everything could change with one little choice and that’s all I’m saying so you have to read it (evil I know) hehe. Amazing can’t wait for the next one.

Demons!
This book is much darker than the previous ones as it focuses on demons.
Tori gets roped into organising the guild's halloween party - all she wanted was to put a pumpkin on the bar, but things spiralled out of her control. However, there's an unbounded demon on the loose which scuppers the plans for the party.
All the guilds gather to try and catch it, but one of the guilds isn't playing fair....
We also get to find out Ezra's backstory, which is very interesting.
Great storyline and very well narrated.

Ezra's story
Tori is officially a registered magic user and member of the guild. Yipee. I was getting tired of her issues. Tori really pissed me off in this story. She is like Tori on steroids. She comes across as nosy, presumptions and hypocritical. She’s in Kai’s business, when her relationship with Aaron wasn’t honest. At one point it was a toss up to who she was going to have a relationship with Aaron or ghost. Considering her faults, I don’t think it is fair that she is up in the guys business telling them how to live. Her relationship with her brother is fractured.
It seems that Annette Marie, the author, is letting us in on the history of our mages’ past. The previous book we discovered information about Kai’s family and this story center on Ezra’s. Ezra past plays a big part in this story and it is very captivating. I am assuming we will discover more about our rich mage Aaron in the next book.
If you got to this point you know how the characters roll. Marie does not disappoint. There is still the snarky conversation, the guys protecting each other’s back, them getting into trouble with the council, and Darius getting them out of jams. There is a threat to the city that mandates all members from all guilds work together.
Sit back and enjoy the story.

This book is terrible
I kept things vague, this review doesn't have any major spoilers.
I loved the other 3 but this book reads like an out of character bad fanfic. The characters' relationships devolve into unhealthy codependance that leads the main character to be more comfortable with killing people. She's at first horrified with the brutality revealed by her 3 main friends (one pushes them to hunt down and kill people to silence their information and is only stopped by one of the guys) but continues to go along with it no matter how bad it gets. This is such a huge red flag. The message is "the power of friendship" but this is just plain unhealthy. Her friends lash out on her respecting boundaries around a big secret (they're furious she didn't pry it out of them) and even more furious when she balks at them hunting down and killing 3 people who discover the secret.
She's also terrified and paralyzed by her fear through out the story, which was the one thing she wasn't in the previous books no matter how dangerous things were. I'm not concerned she stuck around after discovering the big secret, but I am concerned about all the guys actions surrounding this big secret. They were just terrible and she, frozen and panicking, went along with it.

I absolutely love this series!
This time the guild has a demon problem and Tori is part of the group. But the crow and hammer isn't the only guild in this fight. But one guild wants only the glory.
Tori is my hero, I love the way she - well, everything ! And the 3 guys are awesome. I'm hoping Tori and Ezra will be thing in the future. Also, I can't wait for the next one!
The narration is terrific! Chris is awesome and she is one of my favorite narrators!

Cotton Candy for the Soul
Fun escapist faire, if you're looking for easy fun this series fits the bill. Not too much heavy thinking involved.
Full disclosure - I'm not the target demographic. I listen to these stories while I'm exercising or working. I've laughed out loud more than once through the descriptions of the "very hot" guys Tori is surrounded by. I enjoy the character interactions and how the relationships are building as well as how Tori's role in the mythic realm is developing. I do find some inconsistencies in Tori's behaviors. She sometimes exhibits a lack of boundaries which is then inexplicably overlooked by everyone. I am hopeful the development of the other characters continues and their stories get more fleshed out. I'm also hoping for more strong female characters. Ghost is great btw. The writing has a nice rhythm and flow. I'll keep following the series for sure.

She started as a badass and turned into....
The main character started this series as a badass. She is fearless and ready to jump into the action. This 4th book, what happened? She turned into this little whiny girl who started to rely on her three knights in shining armor to save her. blah. Stick with the first three books, steer clear of this one. I couldn't even finish it; i got soo sick of listening to her whining.

Good Book... Bad Tori
One thing I LOVE about this series is how fast the author is putting it out. I'm so happy not to have to wait years to see what happens next. Thank you author chick. Your dedication to your craft is much appreciated by this inpatient reader. 😊
If you just want the basics, then here you go: The story was GOOD. The side characters were GOOD. The main chick was annoying. Tori's character has changed a lot and in my opinion it wasnt a change for the better. The book didnt deserve her antics. It had some good action scenes and a big reveal towards the end.
I also like that the author is spreading out her books to cover all aspects of the supernatural. This story involved demons but it isn't overly dark or sinister. These demons dont appear to be the traditional opposite of Christian religion type demons but come from another place.
Now for some of my opinionated details.
For such a short book it took me forever to write this review. I'll keep it simple on this one. This story is an excellent addition to the series. This book focuses of Ezra and his background. (I'm an audio listener so I'm guessing at the spelling here) Ezra is my favorite of the trio but I was a bit underwhelmed. Before the big reveal it's pretty obvious what is happening. We find out what we all wanted to know so in that regard I'm glad that the hat is out of the bag. It's the fumbling, sometimes insecure, barely tolerable Tori that rubs me the wrong way.
Tori's character has maintained some of the personality changes that I didnt care for in the last book. There is a line between being inquisitive and being nosey... Tori constantly crosses that line. It's not cute and it's the main thing I dislike about her. She is regressing instead of progressing.
She also comes across as a dunce a few times. This wasn't the case in the first two books. Why now???
I understand that authors want to put a bit of romance in their series, but why does it have to be with one of her "best friends" ??? Women and men can be friends without the extra "benefits".
If you like the series, then I would not skip this book. It has some details you'll need to continue.
3 Stars 🌟🌟🌟- Good Book. I like the overall concept and it was delivered well. Most common ranking for a book I enjoyed and look forward to the next.

Another great story
I just love a sassy heroine with attitude to spare. I have read all the Guild Codex books and they do not disappoint.

Dumb and Dumber
Tori is dumb and then dumber in the fourth book of this series. She is lazy, unintelligent and her life is defined by her male friends. She is impulsive, and her chronic idiocy ruins the book for the reader. The world building is interesting as are many of the supporting characters, but the book became less and less enjoyable as Tori became increasingly annoying throughout this book. I will continue with the series as I have enjoyed the previous books and the supporting characters. Hopefully Tori will learn to think before she acts, including speaking.

Another fun read from Anette Marie
Most serious than the last three back still a good read. Delving deeper into the Mages lives and Tori's evolution of self as she joins them on another adventure.

Too much battling
This book has so many battle descriptions and not enough plot. While I enjoy series I’m much more about the relationships established versus how she fights.
