Summary

Love is the best defense in New York Times bestselling author Susan Stoker’s explosive Mountain Mercenaries novel.

Gorgeous women don’t just stumble onto Ronan Cross’s remote property. But this one - vulnerable, victimized, and needing the kind of help only Ronan can offer - tells a story that makes his blood boil almost as hot as his need to protect her.

Since her father’s death, Chloe Harris has become a prisoner. Her own brother, a flesh peddler and low-level player in the Denver Mafia, is forcing her to sell her body for an endgame Chloe never saw coming: control over a vast fortune. Her only way out is to run - straight into the arms of the one hard-bodied man she can trust.

Defending Chloe could rain punishment down on the Mountain Mercenaries. Her brother has Mob connections and the local police in his pocket. But Ronan still has an edge - the unshakable loyalty of his deadly teammates. As well as an unquenchable thirst for retribution…and Chloe.

Great romance!

Another exciting story by Susan Stoker! The heroine in this story is Chloe, who is the daughter of a wealthy man. When her father is murdered, she loses her job and winds up living back at home with her brother who has taken over the family business. After things begin deteriorating when she doesn’t marry any of her brothers friends, he starts forcing her to work in his strip club. The hero meets her when she stumbles to his home one night and asks for the phone to call a ride. He just can’t stop thinking about her and the big bruise she had on her back. When he decides to try to make sure she’s ok, he finds her at the club and finds out she’s being forced to work there against her will. The men of the Mountain Mercenaries go to rescue her. Add in the mafia, her greedy brother and an unknown inheritance and it makes for a lively story. Narration was well done.

the story was good but I think it could have been made better. I feel like it was ended to fast and to easy. I still enjoy her book though.

Stoker Does it again

Defending Chloe: Mountain Susan Stoker

I buy any Susan Stoker as a pre-order. She is in my top 3 favorite romance authors. Her last book intrigued us to Chloe’s story. Narration was good. This story is twisty and interesting. You will be delighted when the evil villain gets what coming to him.

Small grip: There is one scene that was so non-Susan Stoker. At one point when Chloe is scared of being raped she is concerned about Ronan’s property being tainted or some similar non-feminist crap. Stoker’s women are smart, non-doormat characters. In all of her books I have read/listened to I have never encountered something like this before.

That said, you seriously can not go wrong with Stoker.

Love this book

Oh my goodness, Ronan and Chloe’s story had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. I have to admit my dark side came out near the end and I may have laughed and cheered a little when a certain character gets what’s coming to them.
Action packed, high energy, must keep reading even if you have to ship lunch story. I am loving this series.

Another Gem from Susan Stoker!

Susan Stoker never fails to amaze me with her stories. Always nail-biting, always keeps the reader on their toes, all her plots are unique even if they revolve around the same genre.

She will keep you wanting for more of her special forces alpha men!

Stella Bloom’s narration was also on point, giving the story a life of it own. Bravo!

Good narration and story

The narration of this book is good though the British accent part took a lot of getting used to. The characters and story are very good, but all the graphic sex is unnecessary and annoying.

Tough Guys & Romance

Interesting storyline, great romantic connection and all those hot MM
Guys . Excellent narration. No spoilers but to the author, considering their background and expertise that visit was let’s say surprising.
