They took someone I can't live without. So I did something stupid and went after them.
Four years after Deadbreak, a convoy cuts across the northern plains—Verum Ex up front with their lab-coat gospel, the CCB lurking behind to tax anything with a pulse. I've got a small crew, a dog who thinks he's in charge, and a trail that leads through every settlement still dumb enough to have hope. Each one costs us something. Most of them cost us blood.
Then the trail ends at a fortress by a lake, the dead show up like they got the invite, and we learn what it takes to hold a line when the math says don't bother.
If we survive, the road points to a hospital where the answers are. If we don't, the world gets smaller. Again. And I'm running out of world.

I always assumed it was just going to be a stand alone novel, so glad I was wrong.
This one has been just as much fun as the first.
Jeremiah is probably my favourite post apocalypse protagonist right now, and I've read a lot of that particular genre.
Well done Jorge (and James)! Eagerly awaiting the next installment.
An unexpected sequel!

However really wanted to love Deadlock. Deadbreak was phenomenal and easily one of the most memorable books I’ve read in this genre, so after such a long wait for the sequel, my expectations were understandably high.
Unfortunately, after the first nine chapters, I’m seriously disappointed.
The biggest problem for me is the writing. Deadbreak had a certain quality to its prose, characterisation, dialogue and pacing that made it incredibly easy to get absorbed in. Deadlock just hasn’t captured that same feeling so far. The opening feels much flatter, the dialogue doesn’t land as naturally, and the story lacks the same sense of momentum and tension that made the first book so compelling.
I kept waiting for that moment where everything would click and I’d think, “Yep, this is Deadbreak again,” but it never really came. Instead, I found myself reading because I wanted to see where the story went rather than because I was genuinely invested in what was happening.
Maybe the book improves later on, and I sincerely hope it does. I’m going to keep reading because Deadbreak earned that much goodwill from me. But judging the first nine chapters on their own, this feels like a significant step down from the quality of the original.
Waiting years for a sequel naturally creates expectations, but I wasn’t expecting perfection. I was expecting the same author who gave me Deadbreak. So far, I’m just not seeing that level of writing here.
LOVED BOOK 1…BOOK 2 is meh!

Deadlock continues the story of Jay, Joe, Jenny and now Penny perfectly, story flows from Deadbreak to Deadlock seamlessly and characters grow and change with the story! Action, adventure and comedy are scattered throughout and a riveting and believable story is told. If you like me love Deadbreak then Deadlock will not disappoint!! Jorge Sanchez certainly knows how to tell a story and character build and James Fouhey Brilliantly continues to bring Jay and co. to life.. if you love action, heart, comedy and Zombies you will LOVE this series…
More of the Same!!!! Perfect!!!
