About this listen

In the early hours of Christmas Eve, the wife of parliamentary candidate Tom Perry is brutally murdered in an apparent burglary gone wrong.

With the by-election campaign about to start in earnest, and the festive season in full swing, torrential rain brings with it flood warnings on the Somerset Levels.

Suspended on full pay and transferred to the cold case unit, Detective Inspector Nick Dixon is languishing on the sidelines as the investigation into Elizabeth Perry’s murder unravels and the floodwaters rise.

Returning to duty, Dixon is convinced that the answer lies hidden in Tom Perry’s political life, but why was Elizabeth the target and not her husband? The more Dixon uncovers, the further he is from finding the truth…

Dead Level is the fifth novel in Damien Boyd’s addictive DI Nick Dixon Crime Series.

Another brilliant story from Damien Boyd. He keeps you in suspense until the end. In this episode it’s not justice the whodunnit but the why as well.

It’s great how he references real places and things. This makes the story more interesting.

As with the other audiobooks in the series Simon Mattacks delivers first class narration. His performance brings the characters to life.

The looking forward to the next episode in the series.

Really enjoying this series.
Nick Dixon gets another visit from the Albanians!
He does like playing with fire but it gets the job done.

The narrator is easy to listen to with a pleasant voice and good delivery.

Great characters, and amazing performance by Simon Mattacks - finally a series in which folks actually seem to get on with each other; in others, you've always got the 'maverick' working against the system/colleagues. The narration is brilliant: gives Nixon a calm that emenates. The story is fascinating - so fascinating that I started rationing myself...then I realised that I'd started on book 5. Right, back to number 1 for me.

Just brilliant in every way!
