Summary
A missing child's body is found on the edge of the Peak District. As DCI Kenny Murrain and his team investigate, more attempted child abductions are reported. Murrain's instincts tell him this is a community with secrets, and those secrets have their roots deep in the past.
Unexpected connections surface as he uncovers mysteries long buried. A motorcycle accident in the nearby hills. The unexplained death of a local prison governor. And a high-profile child killing two decades before. Then another child goes missing, and Murrain and his team must race to identify the killer before the past catches up with them and it's too late....
Critic reviews
"A talent to be reckoned with...A strong story line, muscular prose and a real sense of pace...a police procedural for a new age.” (Daily Mail)

Good plot, well read.
I liked the complexity of the plot - the connections weren’t there to see until quite a long way into the story.

Very Good
Wasn't keen on the theme of child killing but stayed with it as the author has a wonderful gift for story telling and the narrator is fabulous. Had to listen to the final few chapters a few times as the profusion of character names changing from first name to surname and switching between real and false names was confusing.

so many twists, turns and fragmented pieces
I have just discovered Alex Walters. what a brilliant writer! There are two timeliness at the start of the story and you wonder how they are connected. As the story progresses, all the fragments start to make an appearance. Lots of twists and turns, picking up pace towards a great ending. A great story, that kept me hooked to the end.

Really good plot
I enjoyed the twists and turns of this storyline, although had to go back and re listen to parts as I found the characters rather confusing, that might just have been me! Look forward to the next book

Some surprises
Excellent narrator. Always enjoy DCMurrain and his‘instincts’. Up until the reveal of whodunnit I thought the book was excellent and tightly woven structured well with some good twists- perhaps a little neat but loose ends generally need to be sewn up. For me the ending was a little rushed and all crammed in to secure an ending. I won’t give any spoilers. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed it.
