About this listen
She was, and always will be, my wife
I've seen the worst humanity has to offer. I gave up everything for my country as a career spy. Now, the only thing my daughter wants from me is to get her mother, my first and only love, to her wedding.
The mother of my child is just as stunning as she was three decades ago. When I approach her, she immediately attacks, protecting herself in a way that I'd never seen before. Someone has hurt her. If I had to guess, they hurt her for years. Her walls are higher than the fucking Andes Mountains, hiding a wounded Princess inside.
I thought I was doing the right thing by staying away, but she thought I’d abandoned her. It sent her into the arms of a terrible man.
Now I see my mistake. Now, I see things clearly.
I will never fail her again.
I will spend the rest of my life protecting her, and making up for the time we've lost.
Danger Close is a second chance, ex-military biker/spy, protector romance where he fell first, and kept on falling. It's an interconnected standalone in the Mourningkill series. You do not need to listen to any other book before this one.

The main characters are complex, wounded and strong in ways that really called to me and had me feeling for them, past and present. Their history and emotional baggage felt raw and real, I loved how the audiobook brought out the depth of their connection in a way that really had me in the feels.
I LOVED IT! This story is an unforgettable journey into a world where personal demons clash with external threats. It’s an intense and deeply emotional story that takes you into a realm of high stakes, blurred moral lines and complex relationships!
It’s a heart wrenching and exhilarating story with a brooding, deliciously dominant hero, that promises you an emotional rollercoaster experience that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It’s got resilience, unconventional romance, and fierce loyalty, as well as side characters to love along with the main characters. And the characters are older which I love!
The duet style narration by Molly Briar and P. G. Hammock was excellent. Both narrators fully embodied their characters but Molly Briar’s accent work especially stood out to me in this one. It added authenticity and helped the characters feel vivid and distinct rather than just ‘read aloud’… The emotional delivery was spot on, you could really hear the pain, the restraint and vulnerability in their performances.
Some narrators I could listen to while they read an instruction manual and P. G. Hammock is one on them, and when he says ‘princess’ I melt! And he really makes you feel his love for his characters family.
Having both read and listened to this story, I can honestly say the audiobook elevated the experience for me. The pacing worked beautifully in audio and I never felt pulled out of the story, only deeper into it. This is not a light listen but it’s a powerful and rewarding one. If you enjoy emotionally intense, character driven audiobooks where the narration truly enhances the story, I highly recommend this.
If you're a reader or listener who craves dominant heroes, fierce heroines, and intimate scenes that go beyond mere suggestion then do yourself a favour and pick this up. You won't regret losing yourself in the world of ‘Cobra and his Princess’. It's unforgettable and unputdownable!
Definitely read the trigger warnings if you have triggers as it’s got sensitive and potentially triggering themes.
Just love the tension

I haven't read the first two books in the series but it didn't lesson my engagement. In hindsight, I'd have liked to have seen Taz and Teri's relationship from Taz's POV (which I think is the previous book in the series) as despite being a major catalyst for the plot, Taz isn't featured very prominently. As much as I loved the romance angle, I really wanted to see more of the moments when Taz truly recognised what her mother had gone through (including what she hid at the wedding). There is one great scene but I'd have loved to have seen them rebuilding their relationship on page too.
I found the narrators both really compelling; Molly Briar is great as Teri and really made me feel for the character and the trauma she was working through. P G Hammock is a new to me narrator and I loved him! The way Hammock brought out Cobra's humour in a story which had some pretty dark themes just had me hooked and I couldn't put it down once I strapped in. The chemistry between them both was so good and I'm hoping they have more projects together in future.
