About this listen

Malcom has got a plan, and slowly but surely, year after year of college, he’s executing it.

He’s made it to the first line on his hockey team, the Portland Evergreens. He’s made the Dean’s List the last four semesters. He’s right in line to graduate on time, and head to the pros. All steps on the ultimate goal of becoming the best front office guy in the NHL.

Elliott is the only fly in his ointment.

The younger, wilder forward parties every night, sleeping with everything with a pulse and barely attending classes or practices.

It’s annoying, but Mal’s dealing with it, until their new coach insists Mal tutor him to help him pass a class.

Until Elliott discovers that Mal’s a virgin. That he’s been too busy checking off points on his life plan to get laid.

They’re fire and ice. Bad boy and virgin. They shouldn’t work at all. But the more time they spend together, on and off the ice, the more irresistible their chemistry becomes.

The more desperate Mal becomes to beg Elliott to tutor him in bed.

To melt some—or all—of the ice he’s wrapped himself in.

Story: I love characters that are multi-dimensional and Malcolm was just that - like an onion that got its layers peeled off one by one. I loved how Elliott's image developed and changed, like they were both influencing the other, building up on strenghts and supporting the weaker spots.
The author balanced emotional maturity with the MCs' age really well, creating believable and likable characters. I had A LOT of fun with these two.
Narration: Great performance and brilliant fit for the characters. The voices an overall emotional layer really enhanced the story.

Malcolm's life is planned to the letter. Elliott takes each day as it comes with no strings attached.Their initial encounters are all sparks and clashes. Malcolm is initially repelled by Elliott's carefree nature, finding his impulsive decisions and total disregard for rules infuriating. On the other hand, Elliott doesn't understand Malcolm's rigid attitude, they constantly bicker. So, when you start reading their story it really is difficult to see how these two will work out, talk about opposites attract!

However, beneath the surface of their constant bickering lies a simmering attraction. When circumstances force them together, Malcolm finds himself drawn to Elliott's carefree nature, and infectious lust for life, while Elliott finds himself intrigued by Malcolm. As they work together they begin to learn from each other. Malcolm learns to loosen his grip, while Elliott discovers that he wants more from Malcolm. I loved both guys, but Malcolm held my heart, during their first date in the arcade, I just wanted to reach into the story and hug him. I also rolled my eyes at Ramsey, as he once again gave out relationship advice. I truly cannot wait for his story. The development of both the MCs was excellent, I enjoyed how they accepted and celebrated each other's unique personalities, and came together. Overall, it's such an entertaining read, some how Beth made it feasible for two totally different people to effortlessly fall in love, and somehow made their push and pull relationship perfect. One little quibble, was the part of the story where Elliot had a major problem with his grades and one of his professors. It took me out of the story a little, but didn't spoil the book for me. Darcy Stark once again brought the characters to life, capturing their voices, personalities, and character development perfectly. He totally captured their li e, and how supportive they suddenly are of each other 😍

Cold As Ice, the 2nd book in the Portland Evergreens series. Cold As Ice can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading book 1, Melting the Ice. The audiobook is excellently narrated by Darcy Stark. Both POVs have distinct voices & Stark also has individual voices for other characters.

Mal & Elliott are opposites who are not only teammates but are on the same line. Coach B makes Mal tutor Elliott in Statistic & their relationship goes from silently pining loudly arguing to HEA. Another reason to read Cold As Ice, is the great twist/secondary plot.

Compelling and fast paced.

This is a great enemies to friends to lovers story with opposites attract and all the spice you've come to love from Ms Bolden!

I loved Elliott and Mal. They are polar opposites but bring out the best in each other when their pride and egos are removed. All these characters are dynamic and intriguing. I love the whole team and Beth is great at teasing and dropping hints here and there of other characters and their stories. Although I'm really keen to find out more about Ramsey or see him meet his match.

Very hockey forward which is good but can't be hard when I know nothing about it.

Beautiful characters, lovely story and heart felt moments to balance out the spice, hockey, arguing and other stuff. It's all enjoyable and the ending is all you could want!!

Fantastic naration, the story comes alive!

When I read this book I really enjoyed it and my review can be seen here https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/customer-reviews/R1WWLB48K07RFO?ref=pf_ov_at_pdctrvw_srp
However listening to it made it more believable, the frustration Mal had with Elliott whenever he did something that Mal didn't like, their passion for each other. Their whole relationship felt more intense.
Whilst I have listened to this narrator before they were with another narrator, so this is the first time I have listened to them as solo. The MCs were instantly recognisable and there was no confusion to whose POV I was listening to. Even all the side characters had their distinct voice. I especially liked Mal's friend Jane's voice as sometimes the females characters sound weird.
I do love this series and I cannot wait for Finn's story whether I read it or listen to it or do both I will be extremely happy and I will look out for more narrations by Darcy Stark

Makes the enemies to lovers more real
