When her boss, James Langton, is almost fatally injured while pursuing a ruthless gang, Detective Anna Travis must put her own career on hold as she nurses him through his intense frustration and desperation to bring his would-be murderer to justice.

Then Anna is assigned to a different case, the vicious murder of a quiet, studious woman whose body was found by her daughter - a senseless attack with no obvious motive or immediate suspect. Until, chillingly, the case becomes unexpectedly linked with that of her boss, and Anna finds herself under threat from those who almost destroyed his career and his life.

Found this book in the series particularly confusing and hard to follow at times, shame

Not a favourite of mine

I've read a few of the Travis series, she is so boring , the character doesn't develop. God forbid she do anything risqué! Found a lot of the violence gratuitous. I don't know when it was written but in parts it could have been saying loud and clear vote brexit.

Tedious

The story was good, as all Linda Planter's UK based books are, but I did find myself wishing at 75% through that she would come to the point. Narrator is good, other than the odd shouting bits, which really grated on me.

Could be shorter

Another great book in this sereies. It's a great series to reread during my work as I can enjoy it while doing my job. I also like the way this reader reads the series and think she's doing a great job. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Really enjoying rereading this series.

Great story. Narration OK - I so wish the narrator didn’t have to shout so much with most male character roles..we can imagine it ourselves! Makes me wonder who on earth would want to join the Police or live in the UK though! Such inept government! I guess it is how country has become - overrun with immigrants and a miserable place left for us whose home Britain was once OUR home and country! In all it was an exciting read, however, hugely depressing to see the seedy side amused by all of the dross we have to support. I am with the character Harry - all the way (even though his voice was irritating and too loud!!!!

Good storyline..
