Summary

New York Times and USA Today best-selling author S.E. Smith presents another action-, adventure-, and suspense-filled story to transport listeners out of this world.

Riley St. Claire has always followed her own rules. When she discovers her current employer is not as law-abiding as she thought, she has to leave town in a hurry...or end up buried with the dead guy she discovered. She doesn't expect to be picked up by a passing trader from another world.

As the ruling king of Sarafin, Vox d'Rojah is expected to produce a son who will be joined in marriage with the first-born daughter of the king of Valdier. But Vox has no intentions of having any sons, at least not in the near future. He's quite happy with the wide selection of females at his disposal. When Vox is captured by a ruthless Valdier royal and sold to a mining operation, the last thing he expects to find is his bride mate.

Vox isn't sure which would be easier: fighting another war with the Valdier or capturing and holding on to the human female who's unlike anyone he has ever encountered. Now he must escape back to his world while fighting pirates, traders - and Riley!

The king of Sarafin has met his match in Ms. Riley St. Claire from Earth. Now he just needs to figure out a way to let her know he has chosen her as his queen - and he has every intention of keeping her by his side forever.

Laughed my rear end off

Would you consider the audio edition of Choosing Riley to be better than the print version?

Better no.... the audio version brought the story more to life but I love both versions of this book.

What did you like best about this story?

Have to admit I love Riley's character and everytime Vox killed one of her coats I was laughing so much I cried.

Have you listened to any of David Brenin’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I've listened to alot of David Brenin's performances and he brings the story to life with how he narrates it.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed so much with this book. Some of the situations and the descriptions were just too funny.

Any additional comments?

I love S.E Smiths books and have bought them all and the audiobook versions. I can't tell you that I prefer one or the other. But I love listening to them and hearing someone elses take on the book. Definitely great when you have such a great narrator.

Choosing Riley

This has got too have been the most hilarious story I have read in a very long time. The characters had such strong characters that you could only laugh at Riley's antics and her constant baring of Box a truly great read.

Impossible to finish, incredibly moronic.

Despite my very best effort I was unable to finish this book, it was simply to painful. Most stupid heroine I have ever experienced, pure luck she did not kill everyone a dozen times by stupidity and arrogance. The book in general has things to easy for the "good guys", the "bad guys" were unfit in their job which does not fit with how successful they were until the heroine came along.

I will say this for the author, there is easy (albeit painful) flow to her story, so I can imagine myself checking out the plot lines and reviews of her other books down the line. With some caution.

A Brilliant Book

I wasn't sure about this book but I loved it.

Riley and her mishaps are wonderfully brave, funny and outspoken.

Vox is totally in love with Riley and takes everything she dishes out.

A definite must listen/read.

Can't wait to hear the next book.

A Must Listen For S.E. Smith's Fans!

S.E. Smith has become one of my go to authors for Sci-Fi romances. Her stories always have a great mix of action, humor and steamy romance, and are very entertaining to listen too. I love Smith's The Dragon Lords of Valdier, Sarafin Warriors, and Curizan Warriors are three series that are intertwined and have events that have taken place simultaneously but from a different POV's; as a result, I'm listening to these series in event order rather than straight series order. It adds more depth to the amazing world Smith has created and Choosing Riley was a great addition to this world building. One thing I've come to expect from a Smith story is a funny dialogue, steamy sex scenes, strong female characters and of course dominate alpha male characters.

In my opinion, for any well developed series to succeed there must be a wide cast of characters with distinct personalities, and Smith definitely delivers with interesting characters; however, I have to be honest, Riley, the lead female character was one of my least favorites so far. Her heart was in the right place, but her dialogue, and clueless actions at times came across as childish. Don't get me wrong, Riley had me laughing but she also had me rolling my eyes.

David Brenin always delivers a stellar performance and does a excellent job with both the female and male characters.

While Riley could be annoying at times, this was still an entertaining story and well worth the time and credit. I'm looking forward to listening to the next story in the series.

Oh my god I hate Riley

I tried so so hard to finish this. I usually like SE Smith, but Riley was such an air headed, contrary little twit I couldn't do it. I stopped with three hours left. Everything was an argument with her. She did crap just to be a pain, and it wasn't sassy, it was bratty. She was a violent idiot over and over again, and pretty much just seemed to have boobs and an ass going for her.

That aside, I had so many questions and frowns. Why a woman from Colorado had a southern accent for one. Why Fred and Bob didn't get to use their own names, since there wasn't a language barrier. Why she always called her sister her "sainted sister" (every freakin time). Why being heavy makes her "maturely shaped" (she's 24!)? I couldn't figure out if she was big and proud or not, since whenever vox mentioned her big ass she flew off the handle (even when he said it was a compliment she freakin shot him?!). And then the men fantasizing about drinking milk from a lactating woman was just... icky. Cats or not, sexualizing something made for infants left me feeling skeeved (at least three times mentioned).

OMG !

This book kept me laughing till I cried . What would be the most unusual thing to be in Riley's purse ? I don't think that girl knows just what all is in that oversized pink monstrosity lol . I think there is at least one fast shifter that's not sure what he's in store for LMAO ! Then he makes the mistake of thinking he's the one in charge oh boy was he wrong 😉. I think S. E. Smith is my favorite author for sure ! Now I have to listen to the next book!

Even better the second time around !!!!
