Summary

Thrown for the biggest loop she would likely ever be forced to experience, Daisy found herself at a complete loss for once. While a course of action normally made itself clear to her, her new predicament made following her instincts impossibly dangerous. One misstep, and she not only might harm those she cared for, but could even fracture the universe itself.

Forced to rely on her unlikely alliances along with her own wits, Daisy would soon find herself going head-to-head with the most brutal race of alien conquerors the galaxy had ever known.

If she succeeded, freedom was the prize. If she failed, oppression, slavery, and death awaited the vanquished.

The stakes were high and the pressure higher, but with the help of friends, both old and new, she was determined to give it her all. But if she failed, all was exactly what she might lose.

An incredible look from the other side

I was lucky enough to recieve a review copy of this book. and the series keeps on giving. The book itself is a plot twist on the books coming before it, and the fact that everything was signposted from the very first book makes it even better. This book shows another side of the story that I did not see coming, and is still supported by the excellent narration. I'm very much looking forward to where the story goes next.

Warp drive to time drive!

Chasing Daisy The Clockwork Chimera, Book 4 By: Scott Baron Narrated by: Vivienne Leheny I love this series and all the wonderful characters! The terrific wild adventures this crew gets into is crazy! When the last book ended Daisy had jumped in space but they find they jumped in time! Now what? How to get back? How to not change history? What can they do? So fun what happens! Adventure, humor, science fiction, great characters, plot, and world building makes these books habit forming! The narrator performs perfectly! She makes the story pop!

Daisy doesn't let you down

An instance of a book where I missed the codes, so I bought it. If you enjoy Sci-Fi you'll enjoy this series, Aliens, AI, Space Battles... everything you want in a good Sci-Fi series. That said we're four books in so you probably know that by now, and I'm just preaching to the choir. If you do come across this and you haven't read the rest of the series, go do that, the first book sets a great pace and the series maintains quality.

Great world building!

I really enjoy how the writer wrote, the characters feel like people. They have growth as they traverse their world, strong conversations and interactions and fantastic world building. The audio reading is great, each character is uniquely voiced and is fantastically done! Overall the story is great! (Non-Spoiler foreshadowing, the reading improves as she learns the characters throughout each book and voice alone will help you know which character is talking!)

Wonderful Development

I love how this story has developed. Daisy is much more lovable now that she has grown more mentally. Just when I think I’ve predicted the story it surprises me with something else. Plus the narrator great as ever. I binged listened to all the books and will continue to Book 5!

Lots of Unexpected Moments, Loved It

Chasing Daisy, the fourth book in the Clockwork Chimera series and it feels like we’re just getting started. We’re introduced to a whole new story here (still a continuation) but it’s a brand new adventure for Daisy. Just when I think I have Baron figured out he goes and flips the script on me. The story in this one is really enjoyable, and Baron is able to put this sense of unease through the entire thing. The funniest part is that the specific unease that I’m talking about doesn’t really have a solution in this book, but I have a feeling very early in book 5 we’re going to find out what is going on. There are lots of unexpected scenes in Chasing Daisy and it’s an interesting alternate telling of events (and also interesting way to deal with the changes that you make when you jump through time). Baron does a great job grounding the entire story in great characters so it’s a breeze even when they’re jumping around time and space. Vivienne Leheny, as always, crushes this one – voicing Daisy, the voice in her head, and the slew of other characters in the Clockwork Chimera series to perfection. Both series by Baron are proof what a great narration can do to the stories. They bring them to life and turn your book into a story. It’s awesome to be a part of. Overall, another fantastic addition to this series and one that I absolutely loved listening to. Baron is a master storyteller and weaves stories that leave you glad you read them when you’re finished. Both the Clockwork Chimera and The Dragon Mage series are some of my favorite Sci-Fi tales and I’ve been recommending them to all of my friends.

Time travel?

I normally do not like books that contain time travel as it is handled as an easy solution to complicated problems. Scott Baron does a great job at not only answering some questions about paradox's in his universe but also uses this book to answer how some of the less believable events in the previous books happened. Enjoy the ride as Daisy and crew try to figure out what they can and can't influence while back in time meeting old and new friends.

It's Daisy with more adventure and fun

The fourth book in “The Clockwork Chimera” series is one that takes the storyline in an entirely new and interesting direction; think the fourth direction. In “Chasing Daisy”, things begin to get more fun, more interesting, and more complex as Daisy and her team not only battle aliens who are intent on taking over the Earth, but also struggle to master time travel. Yep, you heard that correctly. In this latest installment, we get to see the team hop around in time and try not to disrupt to many past events. Scott Baron (author) and Vivienne Leheny (narrator) keep the excitement of the story pushing forward in this wonderful science fiction series. If you have not yet started the series, I would say this is a good time to jump onboard. All four of the current books are exceptionally written and narrated which for me is a great combination, and they are all currently available on Audible for your listening pleasure. As the story begins to grow even grander, I find the author’s ability to provide prologue details at the start of every book, either via flashbacks or character conversations, important. It is a rather simple way of bringing the listener into the story without much extra effort. And for this audiobook, this background is important as we begin to deal with time travel. For those of us who are old enough to remember the movie “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure” or like a good “Doctor Who” episode, you will understand many of the nuances of traveling thought time. Often such traveling comes with more negative consequences then what is attempted to be modified. Here in this audiobook, we are reminded, not only of the initial consequences of an event or action, but additional consequences which can occur trying to rectify them. Even though we have had many different types of artificial intelligence (AI) systems way back in the first audiobook, here we begin to see more blending of human skill with technology. Each has their own strengths, weaknesses, and personalities. Because of this, both Humans and machines have to depend on each other if they hope to succeed. One system seems to be learning and advancing much more rapidly than the others the team has experienced. Yet, this AI seems to be the least confident in their own abilities compared to the others. I find the research from Mr. Baron to be more realistic when it comes to the AI systems along with technology in general. However, these AI systems are more intelligent than what we have today and that becomes obvious as the book progresses. Even with this power, the AI systems are still not overpowered compared to their human counterparts. In this part of the series we have most of the characters returning from previous installments, but we are introduced to a newer character which seem to have an aura of mystery around him. Will he help the crew, or will his timely appearance be their demise? As with the previous stories, we also have the alien rebels and loyalists along with the quite powerful enemy the team is attempting to defeat. Sarah also has some things happen to her that gives her the ability to not only feel more human, but also be tied in with a few of the AI systems along the way. I found that the characters in this book started to solidify more for me, which is a good thing. I’m growing more attached to some and less to others. I just hope the author does not decide to kill off one of my favorites as things progress in the story. The narration by Vivienne Leheny is very well produced and her voice seems to fit the main character just right. Much like with the “Dragon Mage” series and Charlie, I would not want to have another person voice Daisy going forward. She does a great job of not only voicing the other humans in the audiobook, but the AI systems and the aliens as well. The audio levels were consistent and there were no noticeable audio artifacts I noticed while listening. A narrator I would listen to other audiobooks she has produced. For parents and younger listeners, like with the other audiobooks in the series, this audiobook also contains a fair amount profanity. There are a few scenes of graphic violence along with some adult crude humor and innuendos which may not be appropriate for younger listeners. In summary, this book is another winner in the series and each audiobook only get better and better. Aspects of the story are becoming clearer and more solidified. Throwing in the twist of time travel caught me off guard a bit, but I like where it is going. The audio itself was clean and clear of any issue and the writing remains detailed and well thought out. There is plenty of adventure here including having to deal with some paradoxes along the way. I have not stated this in previous review of this series, but I do have to give credit also to the cover art as it is very well done. Again, if you are looking for something new to jump into, I would recommend you give this audiobook, and the series, a listen. Enjoyable Penultimate book, looking forward to 5.

Book 4 wrapped up the cliffhangers from book 3 and then provided a whole lot of fan service by giving us alternate viewpoints from previous books. Then it prepares us for the final book. Overall, it was an enjoyable penultimate book that provided a well thought out perspective on time travel. The characters continue to evolve and grow, and I thoroughly enjoyed Daisy’s punishment of having to relive her mistakes and terrible decisions from earlier in the series. The humor in this book was great, and there were some creative dad jokes. The narration continues to be spot on as well. Overall, this was an enjoyable listen and I’m looking forward to book 5. This audiobook was provided by the author at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review.

A bit slower pace

Still some really interesting things happening in this book, but having gotten used to the quick pace and expanding scope of the previous 3 in this series, this one felt like a bit of a slog to get through at times. I can feel the many setups for the finale of the book, but there didnt really seem to be a big conflict to overcome in this one and it left the peaks and valleys of the overall story line feeling shallower. that being said, I still enjoyed it and am eagerly looking forward to reading the sequel!
