Summary

What do you do when you become your own worst nightmare?

No longer the Watcher she once was, Sawyer must come to terms with her new reality. Her new identity. She may have new powers, but if she uses them, can she avoid losing herself in the process?

Desperate for answers, Sawyer travels to the United Isles with Max in search of help. Of someone who could be an ally. Someone who could break the connection she has to those who will abuse her power. But the haven they find can’t remain that way. And their new allies aren’t the people Sawyer believed them to be.

When the defenses of the United Isles are finally breached, Sawyer will be forced to make choices. She’s hoping to save as many as she can, but when a former lover attempts to kill her, she’ll have to fight just to save herself.

Saving her own life is only one thing Sawyer is fighting for, though. More importantly, can she save her soul? If she still has one to save.

The second book in the Watcher series picks up where the last left off. Action, intrigue, and a bit of romance will keep you listening to the end.

Getting better and better

The first book was amazing and drew me in instantly. This continued with the second book which I think might be even better than the first! Great writing and great character. I love the world that the author has crafted.
The story had been focused on Sawyer trying to find her way in the world now as a Carbon versus a Watcher. I like Sawyer, great character! Being a Carbon has evolved the character of Sawyer to become more human
The book starts off by getting us into the story and then the second half of the story is filled with action.
Sawyer uses some of her Carbon abilities which is interesting/really cool. I love the way the story evolves and where we are going with the characters.

Sawyer changes completely

first off, I enjoyed Watcher a lot, enough that I downloaded this book before I was done with watcher...

I will list my complaints below and if you think they won't frustrate you as they did me, give this book a shot...
it still advances the plot and somewhat explore the world. I just couldn't get past the things listed below to enjoy it.

Sawyer changes character completely from whom she was...

the first part of the book is total teenage drama, woe is me
second part she is unreasonably bossy, demanding every one obeys her every command while she ignores everything anyone tells her
third part is dedicated to showing how OP she is as she almost loses to a challenge, the overcome it, to be almost overrun be next obstacle before overcoming it... again... and again... and again... mostly just to justify a cheesy one liner...
She is really unlikable all in all, I had to force myself to finish this book because her behaving as a bossy, whiny female dog made me legitimately angry with frustration...

Audio on the other hand is just as wonderful and amazing as the first one and I am extremely sad that the book doesn't deserve the beauty that is the collaboration that is Chelsea and Steve

Sorry AJ, and I hope you don't take it personally, the book is well written, I just didn't enjoy the direction you've taken Sawyer

Listener received this title free

More chick lit than dystopian thriler...

Having received the Watcher trilogy for free for a frank and honest review and struggling to connect with the first novel, it's unsurprising to find my opinion congruent regarding the second. There is little to no world building and once again the plot twists are well flagged. Add to this the tedious love triangle sub-plot detracting from what should be, in essence, a brutal and grim story so don't be surprised if your teeth are ground to nubs. The development of the main characters is infuriating and illogical at times. The only redeeming character is Sam who's ebullient and infectious nature is juxtaposed against the rest of the moody teenagers who inhabit this world.

Once again, Chelsea Stevens and Steve Campbell's narration uplifts the novel making it a bearable listen. I donthink I would have got through this if I'd been reading it myself.

These books really should be tagged as "Romance" as a large percentage of narrative seems to focus on Sawyer thinking about or being with a love interest rather than actually saving the world.
