About this listen

My name is Barry, although it might as well be Loser. Satan owns my soul, and my demon boss, Margery, tortures me with her magical cigarettes every chance she gets. While I’m desperate for freedom, I’ll do anything to stop her from opening the Gates of Hell…or any other crazy thing she has planned. My odds of saving mankind are uncertain, but I have to try.

Call for Obstruction is the introduction to The Courier series. It won the Textnovel Writing Contest for its unique characters and dark humor. It’s fast-paced like a video game and hard to pause.

Listen to this book if you’re a fan of Christopher Moore, Terry Pratchet, or Jim Butcher. You’re sure to have a damned good time!

A very fast book which doesn't give you much time to digest the plot and twists until you get to the end. This is a short book, I would have probably enjoyed it if it was an hour or two longer and could give a bit more time to the characters and world building. I'm not sure if this is going to stay a standalone or be part of a series.

It had some original ideas and a very sarcastic take on the war between heaven and hell. The main character Barry was had to root for at times but he kept my interest and just seems to muddle through more and more difficult situations.

Jack Wallen did a very good job at narrating the book and loved the distinct voices. I loved Margery voice and I believe he used Roz from Monsters Inc as inspiration. It did tie in with the dialog but based on the cover art I was more expecting a more sexy voice.
