About this listen

When Zara awoke to find Valerius, leader of the legendary Gilded Knights, towering over her, she thought she'd gone mad.

She was the Fury, mistress of claw and flame—armies trembled at her name! Now she lay chained and broken, a prisoner in her own home.

But that wasn't why she thought herself mad.

Only yesterday, she remembered a different life. She remembered her nephew in the local arcade, struggling to beat the villainous Zara the Fury in Knights of Eternity. She remembered her uncle and his big booming laugh...

…and she remembered the gun that changed everything.

The story opens with a teenage FMC who clearly struggles with anxiety and self deprecating thoughts - hugely relatable and whisking me right back to those years.

I had never read a LitRPG before but the world building in Calamity is seamless. At no point did I have to re-read to understand the setting and the story flows really well with the divergent storylines and multiple povs. At no point did I think "ugh, not THEIR chapter again" but was gripped to find out the next twist or how the previous predicament was solved.

The world and magic system are well explained and easy to visualise. The magic users in the story are competent and make for gripping battle scenes that don't feel like they're dragging on.

The characters are so well written! My favourite part of the whole story was how real the characters felt whether they were discovering that they are capable and worthy or whether they're struggling with the hand they've been dealt and unashamedly chasing that villain arc!

There are plenty of gasp worthy plot twists and I can't wait to read the next one to follow on with these characters.

I'm so happy I randomly came across this title and was introduced to LitRPG, brilliant read!

Fun and engaging RPG story

I’m a big fan of isekai stories, and Calamity really hit the mark for me. It’s a refreshing take on the genre, weaving an intriguing system into the narrative that enriches the world the main character finds herself in. I love her villain name! The system fits perfectly within the world, revealing itself gradually in a way that makes sense.

The balance between touching character moments and exciting action scenes kept me engaged throughout. The vivid descriptions pulled me right into the scenes, letting me see the world through the characters’ eyes—especially the main character as she navigates her complex new reality.

The amazing narration by Andrea perfectly complemented the wonderfully rich storytelling. This book was hard to put down because I genuinely cared about the characters and their journey.

Calamity is a gripping story with compelling characters that straddle two worlds. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an immersive, imaginative, and thoroughly engaging read. Can't wait for the next book in the series!

Really enjoyed this from start to finish. The story keeps you guessing. The characters are well developed. The imagery is very easy to picture. I truly enjoyed wandering this world. Fantastic job by author and reading performer. Highly recommend this. Already started second book.

Andrea is an amazing VA and why I picked up this title despite being another Isekai gamelit. But I have to say that the writing is excellent and I quite enjoyed the original ideas of the worldbuilding. The characters are well written and interesting. Looking forward to the next book and hope it's a bit longer but maybe wandering inn has spoiled me.

original execution of a common gamelit trope
