About this listen

The next novel featuring Lieutenant Eve Dallas from #1 New York Times bestselling author J.D. Robb!

Sometimes "brotherhood" is just another word for conspiracy...

Dennis Mira just had two unpleasant surprises. First he learned that his cousin Edward was secretly meeting with a real estate agent about their late grandfather's magnificent West Village brownstone, despite the promise they both made to keep it in the family. Then, when he went to the house to confront Edward about it, he got a blunt object to the back of the head.

Luckily Dennis is married to Charlotte Mira, the NYPSD's top profiler and a good friend of Lieutenant Eve Dallas. When the two arrive on the scene, he explains that the last thing he saw was Edward in a chair, bruised and bloody. When he came to, his cousin was gone. With the mess cleaned up and the security disks removed, there's nothing left behind but a few traces for forensics to analyze.

As a former lawyer, judge, and senator, Edward Mira mingled with the elite and crossed paths with criminals, making enemies on a regular basis. Like so many politicians, he also made some very close friends behind closed - and locked - doors. But a badge and a billionaire husband can get you into places others can't go, and Eve intends to shine some light on the dirty deals and dark motives behind the disappearance of a powerful man, the family discord over a multimillion-dollar piece of real estate...and a new case that no one saw coming.

This series of books has just been some of the best I have listened to in a long long time. Apart from the captivating story lines that has me sitting in my car once I get home just to get to the end of a chapter. The idiosyncrasies and interactions between all the characters even Galahad the cat is just brilliant. The lieutenant and her husband Roarke is a very strange relationship, but with Galahad and Summerset it puts it all on an even keel. I would like to say if I may that the chapter between Eve and Dennis Mira is some of the best writing or listening I have possibly ever heard. The intimacy and love that was portrayed in that chapter was heart wrenching. I would like to thank J. D. Robb for the text and especially Susan Erickson for the superb characterisation of each individual is the book. There are so many characters to talk about and they all stand out in their own little way. Thank you J. D. Robb and Audible for bringing this series to us.

Intimacy at its best.

What did you like most about Brotherhood in Death?

I absolutely adore the Peabody character. The timeline is set mid 21st century but realistic in possible developments, which is good for me since I am no fan of science fiction

What did you like best about this story?

All the books I have listened to in this series have held my attention and this is, I have to say, as much to do with the narrator as the author.

Have you listened to any of Susan Ericksen’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Yes, and this is an exceptional narrator who knows how to convey emotions in the narrative. The reason I love the Peabody character is because her humour comes across brilliantly. Transferring from one character to another, at the same time accent to accent and with emotion is a great skill.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Maverick Lieutenant with a billionaire reformed thief for a husband.

Any additional comments?

Looking forward to the next one.
