Summary

Have you ever felt like a fraud or failure as you struggle to find balance in life? Do you find yourself juggling everything in mediocrity and feeling like you're succeeding at very little? In her no-nonsense style, Alli Worthington - popular podcaster and author of The Year of Living Happy - tackles the big questions about finding happiness and one's God-given purpose.

Breaking Busy marries popular secular research with solid biblical principles, instilling confidence that you, too, can move from crazy busy to confident calm. With refreshing candor, uproarious true stories, and a Christian worldview, Alli delivers truths that dismantle common happiness myths. Then she empowers you to get unstuck, to let go of the good to make way for the great, to know yourself and your Creator, and ultimately to find peace and purpose in this world of crazy. You will:

  • Learn how to stop chasing what leaves you empty and start doing what you were created to do.
  • Identify the common lies you believe and how to strip their power from your life.
  • Recognize how what you say no to determines what you can say yes to.

With relatable anecdotes, Alli models real-life guidance on boundaries, relationships, and self-care, humbly examining her own mistakes and walking through how she learned from her missteps and found peace in a world of busyness. If you long to find real connection with both your loved ones and your Creator, Alli Worthington deftly balances intelligent humility and heartwarming humor to help you rediscover your path.

BORING

This is all about her and I didn't gain any insight into how to break the busy cycle. I did realize that she put more importance into her business than she did into her family.

Great, faith filled advise.

This is the first ever "self help" type book I have read. Usually I just check out blogs in secret and try to deny that I really need help. But the truth is, I DO! I work so hard! Give so much! But...I am not happy. My family is not happy. This book has given light to many places that can be improved. It does not restate the obvious. It does not over simplify or make you feel inferior for needing improvement. It does not give generic "magic 8 ball" style assistance. It gently tells the truth from the Bible with real life experience.

Every Mama’s Read!

This book came at the exactly time needed in my life! Alli clearly identifies where we spend our time and where we can get better but it includes how we can better position ourselves to live a life filled with purpose and focus on the right areas.
I highly recommend this to any woman especially mamas who wear multiple hats. It’s an easy read filled with golden nugget after golden nugget.
Thank you Alli for not only sharing how to break busy but living it in your every day life!

Couldn't finish this one

It's ok in the beginning but this book takes the religious side of things way too far. I can handle religious references and respect the values taught in the bible but there came a point in this book where I couldn't deal with listening any further.

Inspirational, encouraging, convicting. loved it!

I loved this book . As a mom of 4, working, raising kids, being a wife and in ministry I could relate to so much of what Alli talked about. I can't recommend this book enough to women, especially those trying to prioritize and not be so frazzled and busy.

Wish I had read other reviews...

I guess it’s my fault for not being thorough before purchasing this book (I ended up “returning” it after chapter 2) but she talks a lot about Jesus/bible verses and that’s not really my thing. So, probably a good book if you’re into Jesus and the Bible. I would not recommend it if you’re not into Christianity.

Fantastically Practical

Alli's way of exposing the realities of life and how God has pulled her through not only touched my heart but hit home in so many ways. I laughed, I cried, and most importantly I walked away with practical action steps on how to be less busy but more fulfilled in life! Thank you!!!

Great book for a small group!

I took my small group through this book. We focused each week on one topic and dove deep into what God was trying to tell us. It was a great book and applied directly to where each of us were. Women are often so busy we don't know where to find the time to read. I used this audiobook as my way to learn how to break busy without adding anything extra to my plate.
