About this listen

I’ve been counting down to summer—finally, a chance to escape. After a brutal hockey season, all I want is peace and quiet on my new ranch. But a streak of bad weather traps me with my neighbor, Terra White, and suddenly, solitude doesn’t seem so appealing.

Terra’s got a spark I can’t ignore, even though I keep telling myself to. She’s funny, adventurous, and easy to be around. But her father is a different story. Disapproving and overprotective, he’s made it clear he thinks Terra deserves someone who won’t let her down. After my own failed marriage, I’m not convinced that’s me.

Back in the city, I can’t get her out of my head. I message her, and our friendship grows over late-night calls and texts that feel like they mean more. I know Terra wants a love that lasts, but I’m not sure I can live up to her family’s expectations—or my own.

Letting her in means risking everything, and I don’t know if I’m ready to take that leap.

The way they met was both hilarious and romantic. As they get to know each other, they both challenge each other and grows as persons. I love the way she's both strong, independent and capable and the way she cares for her loved ones. Cam is the brooding, wounded hero with a softness inside, few gets to see and she brings it out. I really enjoyed this story.

These hockey players are so much fun to get to know. Each one has their own personality, but the thing they have in common is their love for the game. This is Cam's story. Off season, he enjoys going to his mountain home to enjoy the quiet, until one day he comes across Terra. Stuck under her ATV, he helps her out and a new friendship is born. But while the attraction is strong, there are obstacles which could place them strictly in the friendzone! Family, work, bad communication, past relationships, it all plays into this thing called life. The question is, will their new budding relationship be able to stand the test? I loved these two. Why? Cam is sweet, a little grumpy and not afraid to go after what he wants. Terra is a bit scared and unsure how to make that family break. It's packed with good hockey fights and spicy nights! I enjoyed this one!

Tor Thom and Amanda Stribling are our story tellers for this and they tell it exactly as it should be! Thom breaks out in the beginning with his grump on, but quickly melts as his feelings for Terra grow. That doesn't stop his hot head from escaping though every once in a while! Terra is sweet and loyal and Stribling brings out her naivete, keeping her passion strong right along with her stubborn streak! These two are fantastic together and made this listen!

Slow burn romance isn’t something I usually gravitate to (because I have the patience of a toddler) but I really enjoyed this one. I love how the relationship developed between Cam and Terra. It was a very organic transition from friends to lovers. I love how they help each other work through the issues that hold them back from finding love and also how they inspire each other to be the best versions of themselves. It’s a bumpy road, but eventually, they get there.

I love the support that Cam gets from his teammates. That’s one of the reasons I love this series. The players look out for each other. They like to poke fun at each other, but they’re also always there to lend a helping hand. Their partners also form a strong friendship. When a player joins that team, they join a family. It’s really lovely to see.

I really enjoyed the narration of this book. Tor Thom is a narrator I really enjoy listening to and he didn’t disappoint in this performance. He was great as grumpy Cam, sweet, vulnerable Cam and his deep gravely voice was perfect for passionate Cam. This was my first time listening to Amanda Stribling and I really enjoyed her performance. She played the insecure but strong-willed Terra really well. They brought out all the emotions the characters we feeling and made the listening experience very engaging.

This book is great if you like slow burn romance, flawed characters who work on their issues and grow as people, supported by a loyal community, longer stories, banter and emotional moments.

I've been on a short story kick lately so it was nice to dive into a longer book. This one was perfect: hockey(!), a touch of enemies to lovers, plenty of hot spice, a cute pup, some third quarter drama--but not too much angst-- and a HEA.

While this is part of a series, I read it as a standalone easily.

Narration was excellent. Two of my favorite narrators and they did a bang up job. Also, Tor Thom saying "Darlin" is perfection!

Hot hockey hunk!

'Besting the Blueliner" blends sports romance with heartwarming humour and relatable characters. Narrated by Tor Thom and Amanda Stribling, the story follows Cam Blue, a retired hockey player seeking solace in a secluded ranch, and Terra White, his intriguing neighbour.

My favourite part was their initial encounters, which were marked by playful banter that quickly evolved into a deeper connection. The slow-burn romance allowed their personalities and shared experiences to intertwine naturally. The audiobook's narration showcased their struggles and the gradual blossoming of their relationship. I liked that the story was less sports-oriented and was more about romance and family drama.
This lovely, feel-good story celebrates second chances and finding love in unexpected places.
