Lost and forgotten, Castor is a prisoner of the very Iron Empire he once served.

Thought of as a common criminal, Castor guards his dangerous secret—that he has bound a second Symbol—with his life. If the Censors knew, they’d execute him on the spot.

There is only one path to freedom and avenging his family.

He must earn it no longer as a member of the Iron Legions, but by spilling blood for one of the great Houses.

The dead gods stir in their rotting slumber. Dangerous enemies stalk his new master. Surrounded on all sides, Castor must learn the secrets of his Cor Heart and reach new heights of power before it is too late.

And in the wake of his Ascent comes the first sign of change–A COLD WIND.

I particularly enjoyed listening to this book. first because it stick to the text not adapting it to a more audible narration (probably because the text itself is narrative enough to not require it). I can't explain, just some audio book don't stick to the line, because when read they could not sound fluent but too much made to be read not listen. the characters voices are not strained to mimic, and the storyteller doesn't try to invent thousands of voices (that sometimes makes the audio narration awkward if pushed too much).
However, although I have really appreciated this audio book. it's a great story, but if you don't really know what you are reading/listening, some incongruences with historical places and mismatch of culture might stick out like a sore thumb. this was a suggestion from a friend with no question asked, he said you'll like it and I just bought and read it. once realised the kind of content I actually enjoyed the skill that the author had to put the things together. I was afraid it was becoming an alternate version of "the gladiator" thanks god was not!
one thing I really couldn get my ears around an my brain couldn't cope is the pronunciation of the latin's words, most of them were distorted as an English assumption that the word should sound that way, when is actually not. a bit more research and could have been logic that some sounds could not exist that way. but the remarkable part is that the pronunciation was clean of accent.
so, finally:
if you like historical fiction, give it a go!
if you like fantasy it is not what you are expecting and can surprise you.
if you like the mix of the two with the games licence to try and mix to get the story interesting you are in the very right place.

great voice that fits perfectly

Loved where the characters are heading and loved the insight to the more than one battle taking place within the main character

Builds on everything the first book did and better
