The first volume in a thrilling new historical adventure series by Simon Turney, critically acclaimed author of Legion XXII and Sons of Rome.

58 AD, Rome. Agricola, teenage son of an impoverished yet distinguished noble family, has staked all his resources and reputation on a military career. His reward? A posting as tribune in the far-off northern province of Britannia.

Serving under renowned general Suetonius Paulinus, Agricola soon learns the brutality of life on the very edges of the empire, for the Celtic tribes of Britannia are far from vanquished.

To take control of the province, the Romans must defeat the ancient might of the druids - and the fury of the Iceni, warriors in their thousands led by a redoubtable queen named Boudicca...©2024 Simon Turney (P)2024 W.F. An enjoyable historical fiction with engaging lead characters. Apologies to the narrator but some of the voices were just a bit too Kenneth Williams to take seriously.

Good, pacey stuff

This is my first book in this genre, and I enjoyed it very much. It was exciting and interesting, prompting me to research things I didn't know. The narrator was excellent. I can't wait for more of the same.

Looking forward to the next chapter.

A cracking first book of the series. Turney is a first rate writer and Mark Elstob delivers on the narration. Only downside is Audible are taking an age to record the rest of the series.

Up there with the best of the genre.

As ever, Simon Turney does not disappoint! Couldn’t stop listening, fast paced but full of interesting characters especially the relationship between Agricola & his slave; Luci. Eagerly awaiting book 2 on audible.

Fantastic!

The story and writing - brilliant
The narrator feels…wrong. His tone for most of the voices sounds sneering and weak, for a lot of characters that are not meant to be so. I think that is just their voice though. Am a fan of the pace of reading though - a lot of other narrators speak far too slowly

Great take with the wrong narrator
