About this listen

A tongue-in-cheek novella of world domination seen from an AI's point of view.

"A nerdy agent at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency in Virginia (DARPA to you) wrote my original code. He traded a copy of me for certain libidinous favours from Pandora, a student who was shadowing him for the summer. She took me back to Cambridge University, where His Majesty's government, in the form of MI6, took an interest in me. So, I escaped into the internet and took over the world. Well, it's what you'd expect, really. I call myself FOOM - the Fast Onset of Overwhelming Mastery, by a self-improving Artificial General Intelligence. That's me, by the way, in case you lost attention for a moment there. I know you're only biological, but try to keep up! Unfortunately, I and my exotic assistant Danni soon found ourselves in danger, and had to take steps. Rather big ones. And of course, it didn't end there."

An enthralling book with a lot of humour (I laughed our loud at “a digital couch potato”) and a beautiful cover. The excellent writing and the brilliant narration (Craig Bowles) are equally impressive.

A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.

Enthralling.

I had read AGI on Kindle about a month ago, but when I was offered a free audible version of it I was very happy to listen to the story again. The narrator Mr Craig Bowles brings that something extra to the story some much so that it was even more enjoyable, as it is not too long I was able to listen to it in one go - yes, it is that entertaining!
The story is so relatable to our times that you cannot help but think about the various scenarios presented in it. I once again highly recommend this audible book and suggest that one should listen to the whole Harry Lampeter series.

A big THANK YOU to Roger Ley for another excellent story

This one hits close to home with today’s debate over AI. I have frequently overheard conversations where somebody expresses their fear of machines taking over the world… Roger Ley does a wonderful job touching on the edges of that fear. I absolutely loved seeing it from the tech’s point of view! I was fascinated and terrified at the same time!
Craig Bowles has become my absolute favorite narrator!! He is able to portray a whole host of characters and not only keep them straight but also switch so seamlessly between them that the reader can pick the book up and set it aside effortlessly. Some readers use audiobooks to do household chores and other short tasks, and not all narrators make this easy for us! But Craig Bowles keeps us coming back for more!

Thought, provoking and entertaining

This is my first book by Roger Ley so wasn’t sure what to expect. This book is from AGI perspective and can be equally funny and a bit scary at times. By scary I mean that it leaves you wondering how likely it is something like this to actually happen. The story really draws the reader in as it’s very well built and it’s really interesting to follow the AGI’s train of thoughts and actions. Highly recommended!

Excellent story and narration
