Bloomsbury presents The Mask Falling by Samantha Shannon, read by Alana Kerr Collins.

A stunning new edition of the fourth novel in the bestselling Bone Season series with gorgeous new cover artwork and updated text, by the bestselling author of The Priory of the Orange Tree.

Paige Mahoney has eluded death again. Snatched from the jaws of captivity and sent to a safe house in the Scion Citadel of Paris, she finds herself caught between factions that seek Scion’s downfall and those who would kill to protect the puppet empire.

The mysterious Domino Programme has plans for Paige, but she has ambitions of her own in this new citadel. With Arcturus Mesarthim at her side, she embarks on an adventure that will lead her from the catacombs of Paris to the glittering hallways of Versailles.

As Scion widens its bounds and the free world trembles in its shadow, Paige strives to understand her bond with Arcturus, which grows stronger by the day. But just as the revolution began with them – it could end with them too...©2024 Samantha Shannon-Jones (P)2024 Bloomsbury Publishing PLC

Critic reviews

Uniquely different and complex setting … the narrative exerts the same vice-like grip as before, with danger, deception, hair’s-breadth escapes and new revelations coming thick and fast
Fiercely intelligent … Blazing a trail
Shannon expertly blends genres to create a story that is at once a political thriller, a dystopian epic, and a paranormal adventure. This bold series instalment will leave fans eager for more
Intricately plotted … Part political thriller, part paranormal epic, with some dark, dystopian bite tossed on top, The Mask Falling is Samantha Shannon at the top of her game
Thrilling … A tantalizing, strategic setup for the next instalment, which has all the ingredients to be a knockout
It’s an intense read, filled with the grim realities of war … With each new novel Shannon continues to prove that she is a formidable voice in the fantasy genre. This book bites and refuses to let go … It’s addictive

I loved the original The Mask Falling, but these new anniversary editions are so far beyond what I had imagined. They’re incredibly good and I cannot fathom why Samantha Shannon isn’t a household name in every single household everywhere and why Alana Kerr Collins isn’t reading us all bedtime stories with that incredible voice.

Absolutely Can’t Stop Listening Riveting Read

This series is amazing. I can’t believe it took me so long to purchase the first book, wondering if I would enjoy it. Four books and scores of hours later I’m delighted to discover there are more in the series to come. Roll on 2025. The wait will be worth it. Samantha Shannon Jones what an extraordinarily gift you have. Thank for for sharing it with the world of book lovers.
