About this listen

The penultimate book in Donovan Cook's epic, action packed Viking adventure.

A kingdom without a crown.
A boy forsaken by his God.
A warrior bent on revenge.

After the bloody Battle of Jelling, Denmark’s throne lies empty and chaos reigns as Jarls jostle for power.

Sven survives the bloodshed only to return home to find Ribe sacked by those he trusted and Charles, a pawn in a much bigger political game, kidnapped.

Consumed by the loss of Charles, Sven is shocked by the arrival of the Abbess Hildegard, daughter of his nemesis King Louis of East Francia, who seeks the whereabouts of Charles, her son, and also the cross of Charlemagne.

But whilst others want revenge for the chaos Sven has caused, Denmark burns and Sven must stand in the shield wall one more time if he is to survive and rescue his grandson.

Outnumbered and outmaneuvered, Sven and Charles must put their fate in the hands of the gods if they ever want to see each other again.

Perfect for the fans of Matthew Harffy, Peter Gibbons and Bernard Cornwell

I'm loving this series and the narrator is one of my favourites.
One thing I noticed with this recording though is that on several occasions a sentence is repeated but either with another word added or with a different inflection.
Other than that I can't wait for more

I have loved this trilogy. The narrators performance is peerless. This last one is very much of the time. No spoilers but the female character is by far the wisest, the bravest and the best warrior, by far. That was my only disappointment as it constantly diminishes the lead character. Outside of that though, exceptional.

A novel of the time it was written as opposed to when it was set.

Once I started I couldn't stop listening! The fights and backstabbing keeps you on the edge of your seat. I can't wait for the next one!!!

Outstanding series!!!

This series of books is one of the best I’ve listened too in a long time. Shame the editing is terrible. Rereads on the same sentence at about 40 times through out the book. Narration is great, story is brilliant but it’s let down by a poor editor.

Amazing series
