Overall I liked this book and found it helpful. It contains many lessons which ring true to me about how to live a better, more productive and useful life. As I'm currently actively fixing my life I've encountered a lot of similar advice recently, but that's because it's true (imo) and it's reassuring to have things reiterated in multiple sources, it's more likely to stick.

The "higher power" stuff doesn't work for me (brother), it feels vague and faith-based which just doesn't jive with my personality. No amount of giving in or going with it will change that. Once or twice early on I feared I'd wasted my Audible credit.

However, it's entirely possible to completely ignore all that and still get a lot of concrete, actionable advice to improve your life. And that's even if you aren't a fan of his "tools" method (which I'm not.)

Here's my bonus advice which is the common theme amongst all my recent reading: take action as soon as possible. Plough through fear as it will never go away. Don't be passive.

Helpful, actionable advice

Everything. This is pure wisdom. Thank you so much for your work Phil! I enjoyed it a lot and am going to listen it again. As many times as it takes to me fully absord the idea of all of this.

Life changing book

I just finished listening to this audiobook, and will be listening again whilst taking notes & purchasing a paper copy for highlighting and reference. It talks about a wide array of topics, from parenthood, relationships, authority, guilt, judgements, striving for success, feeling like a failure - these are just a tip of the iceberg, so much is covered. The ideas presented in this book are rooted in years of author’s experience in running a therapy practice. The author is not afraid to tackle hard questions about suffering and life’s meaning, delving deeper into topics like one’s shadow, and link between spirituality and wellbeing, and being authentic and accepting yourself unconditionally. The book is full of practical ideas on what you can do there and then to improve your quality of life, and they seem achievable. I have read many books on self development, including author’s other books (also highly recommend..), and found ideas in this book fresh. The author writes with grace and compassion for human condition, and the book resonated with me greatly. The book is narrated well and flows beautifully, I loved loved loved it. Thank you 🙏

A gorgeous book

Phil Stutz therapy ideas narrated in this book supported me through a difficult time and I can genuinely say not many self help books have achieved changes except perhaps 22 rules for life by JBP. Thanks Phil.
