The Empress has given England a male heir but that single action creates rebels in Scotland and in Normandy who try to wrest Normandy and England from King Henry. When the Earl of Cleveland becomes his champion, it unleashes a storm of murder and treachery at the very heart of the Earl's world. In a fast moving novel with battles and combats from the borders of Scotland to France itself we see a world heading towards anarchy and civil war.©2015 Griff Hosker (P)2023 W. F. Bought this in a whim after finishing an excellent book by Christian Cameron. Whilst it was easy to get back into the characters I kept noticing the repetition and the simplistic descriptions as if the book was aimed at a younger audience. No sooner had I got past this and started getting into the book, it ended! Again.
I think it is time for me to give up on this series... for the time being at least.

End of the line for me

A continuation of a great saga. Looking forward to the next instalment from a great writer and a fantastic narrator in Malk Williams.

As with all the books in this series so far I find I’m taking every opportunity to listen to it! Love it.
Keep up the good work and already looking forward to the next book.

excellent historical fiction by a true master
the description of every day life, armour and weapons is very well researched, the fictional mc is inserted into real characters lives and the battles/skirmishes are both vivid and terrifying.
malk Williams is one of my favourite narrators and delivers another great performance

ripping yarn

This whole series is terrific, the growth of some characters is masterful from loathing them to routing for them. Can’t wait to start the next one.
