About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

A short and indispensable whistle-stop tour through the most efficient financial habits that will get you on your way to financial freedom. Get to the bottom of the most common money issues via unpicking the psychology behind them - how they reel us in, why we feel we have to keep up with the Joneses and why get-rich-quick schemes are so alluring. What They Don't Teach You About Money will banish your lack of confidence in money matters and make you laugh along the way! It is a call to arms to reclaim your power and make your money work for you, without the shaming finger-wagging or headache-inducing jargon.

Claer Barrett will unveil the reasons why so many of us lack confidence, and why we stay stuck in financial paralysis. From revealing what 'credit' really means (spoiler alert, it's not as positive as they'd like you to think) to the lie that you can easily make money off property, she'll debunk the pervasive money myths perpetuated by those who profit the most from our ignorance. It shouldn't be this hard. In fact, there are simple steps we can all take to streamline our finmin (financial admin). Habits that get us the best deals and make our money work harder for us, rather than bolstering the coffers of others.

This book is absolutely fantastic and I would highly recommend it. The author, Clare, is highly knowledgeable (she‘s a journo for the FT) and she’s also really funny! eg she explains taxation through the Nandoes Peri Peri spiciness rating or compares compound interest to a goat-killing snowball. I was not expecting to laugh but I did.

Knowledgable, very approachable/relatable and even funny!

Covers so many topics, Hints and tips, the psychology of money, gender gaps and how approach budget, all in a completely reachable and approachable manner. They should definitely give this out free in schools (and for adults!)

Fantastic book! Should be given out free in schools

Claer reads her own book which makes it a better listen in my opinion. Some great financial lessons and tips.

Not only is this the best personal finance book I've read since the total money makeover. It's been written by a British author. Filled with a lot of practical tips and resources. Easy to follow, helped yo simplify some of the financial jargon. Absolutely love it.

Finally a great GB personal finance book!
