An unpopular victim. An impossible crime. A murderer on the loose.

Revised edition: Previously published as The Body in Jingling Pot, this edition of The Body in the Dales includes editorial revisions.

A body is discovered deep in a cave beneath the Yorkshire Dales. Leading the investigation into the mysterious death are experienced DCI Jim Oldroyd and his partner DS Carter, a newcomer from London.

The deceased is Dave Atkins, well known throughout the village but not well liked. While there is no shortage of suspects, the details of the crime leave Oldroyd and Carter stumped. How did Atkins’s body end up in such a remote section of the cave? When someone with vital information turns up dead, it becomes clear that whoever is behind the murders will stop at nothing to conceal their tracks.

Oldroyd and his team try to uncover the truth, but every answer unearths a new set of questions. And as secrets and lies are exposed within the close-knit community, the mystery becomes deeper, darker and more complex than the caves below.

Blimey, it was like an evening at the pantomime. My husband enjoyed the story but I just couldn’t get past the dreadful narration, simpering women’s voices and general panto nature of the rendition!

Well researched but missing a good narrator!

Story excellent, recording really irritating due to mis pronouncememt of Yorkshire words and ludicrous Yorkshire accent.!

Good story, irritating recording.

I think I bought this book by accident! I have enjoyed the story and the presentation. I like the variation of voices, although some of them grated a bit. It has an interesting plot and I enjoyed the setting.

Atmospheric Yorshire tale.

a police detective murder mystery is almost always enjoyable, but this was superb. It all made sense, no resolutions out of thin air. Added to that it was Yorkshire written by a yorkshireman with a deep love of his landscape and the life within in. Setting the story in the world of pot holing added new depths - very literally - and gave an understanding to the excitement and danger of that hidden, alluring world.
All the characters and their lives are very real and I look forward very much to listening to it again

Yorkshire mystery

I persisted with this because I’m about to visit the area, but oh the narrator, and his throaty phlegmy cod depiction of nearly all the Yorkshire men, became almost painful to listen to and caused my ears to hurt. (I am a Yorkshire woman). Other characters were acceptably portrayed. I will try others by the author as long as Michael Page is not the narrator.

Good story ruined by narration
