About this listen

These three stories - The Myth Makers, The Massacre and The Highlanders - see the TARDIS landing in Ancient Greece, 16th Century France and 18th Century Scotland. In The Myth Makers, the time travellers arrive on the plains of Asia Minor, not far from the city of Troy - where the Doctor finds himself hailed as the god Zeus. In The Massacre, he is mistaken for the Abbot of Amboise when the TARDIS materialises in Paris in 1572 - a time of dangerous tension between Protestants and Catholics. And in The Highlanders, The Doctor, Ben and Polly arrive in Scotland after the Battle of Culloden, where they are taken prisoner by Scots rebels. William Hartnell stars as the Doctor in The Myth Makers and The Massacre, whilst Patrick Troughton steps into the role for The Highlanders. Linking narration is provided by Peter Purves and Frazer Hines.©2003 BBC Audiobooks Ltd; (P)1999, 2000, 2001, 2003 BBC Audiobooks Ltd Dramatisations Science Fiction

If you like Doctor Who, you need this bundle. Firstly, all 3 of these adventures are lost. These are amateur tape recordings of the show given the very best sound remastering and a linking narration from one of the show's companions. The format works very well with the narration being brief, to the point and quite charming. Also, your imagination probably paints a better picture than some of the sets did back in the day.

Secondly, despite all 3 of these adventures being historical, there's a great deal of variety. The Myth Makers takes an ironic look at legend and provides inspiration for the current interpretation of the Doctor.

Finally, all 3 of these tales see changes to the Tardis crew. There's the departure of Vicki, Dodo's debut and the arrival of Jamie. Wondeful classics at a bargain price.
