Summary

Lieutenant Apollo Floros can ace tactical training missions, but being a single dad to his twin daughters is more than he can handle. He needs live-in help, and he's lucky a friend's younger brother needs a place to stay. He's surprised to see Dylan all grown up, with a college degree...and a college athlete's body. Apollo's widowed heart may still be broken, but Dylan has his blood heating up.

It's been eight years since the teenage Dylan followed Apollo around like a lovesick puppy, and it's time he showed Lieutenant Hard-to-Please that he's all man now - an adult who's fully capable of choosing responsibility over lust. He can handle Apollo's muscular sex appeal, but Apollo the caring father? Dylan can't afford to fall for that guy. He's determined to hold out for someone who's able to love him back, not someone who sees him only as a kid brother.

Apollo is shocked by the intensity of his attraction to Dylan. Maybe some no-strings summer fun will bring this former SEAL back to life. But the combination of scorching desire and warm affection is more than he'd expected, and the emotion between them scares him senseless. No fling lasts forever, and Apollo will need to decide what's more important - his past or his future - if he wants to keep Dylan in his life.

Book two of the Out of Uniform series.

Great real story

The story line was an excellent spin off the other book. Sexy details made me see everything vividly.

Wonderful! Perfect narration!

Sigh. This is just what I needed! I’d been in a bit of a slump – either the books weren’t hitting me right or they were too angsty or too short or too silly or… But this one was Just Right!

Annabeth Albert is fast becoming one of my top-tier-favorite authors. I’ve yet to be disappointed and I’m really enjoying this series (as I’d LOVED the gaymers series from which this is a spin-off).

Things that pinged my radar: Hot, alpha, military man with a tremendous soft side and a great father to boot. Equally hot, younger guy with confidence coming out his ears and determined to do the right thing – whether it’s in his personal or professional life. (Men who like kids – so, so sweet!)

While I worried for awhile that the pining would get to me, I realized that Apollo had been deeply in love and that needed to be honored. I did wish he’d have cut the crap a bit earlier than he did – but – I loved how Dylan handled it. He didn’t settle for second best and he knew his own heart enough to ask for what he wanted.

As for the hot times – Whoooeee. So. Hot. Lots of dirty talk and sex in front of a mirror! Way, way, way smokin’! But the feels were there, too. There was definitely an emotional connection that went beyond the physical.

So… all in all this just hit the spot for me. Hot. Sweet. Touching. Great writing. Fantastic!

(And these covers.... YOWZA! So HOT!)

Audio

Cooper North is an excellent narrator. His voice is really well suited to the younger Dylan. He doesn’t do a lot of accents or anything to make the various characters unique, and that is a bit disappointing.
I didn’t love his version of Apollo – only because I kind of had an idea of what he sounded like in my head and it was something more deep and rumbly. He did a nice job of making him sound “older” and you could always tell who was speaking.
However, Cooper North is good with emotion and timing and is very easy to listen to. This is definitely a great way to enjoy this story and though it wasn’t exactly as I’d have wanted it, it was still very satisfying.

Best of the series, IMO

This was my favorite of the "Out of Uniform" series, and after having read it twice, listening to it has brought to it a whole new dimension. I fell for Apollo as soon as he was introduced in "Off Base", and this story brought the character alive (The hot single dad thing may have had something to do with that).
The narrator, Cooper North, does an excellent job with the story. His reading is vibrant and alive, and he understands the characters and the story. I was quite impressed. The only criticism I have is that the argument on the sidewalk should have been a bit more intense, but that is a minor observation, and takes nothing away from my overall impression of his performance. A very enjoyable presentation. I highly recommend it, and will look for more by this narrator.

Awesome Book

I loved this book better than the first! I loved the first as well, but wasn’t too impressed with the narration. Narrator was much better in this book and the storyline was great!

Second Time Around is Better

Initially when I listened to to book I was a bit annoyed with Apollo and his lack of regard for Dylan. He did not take into account that he was not hurting himself but Dylan and everyone around him. Now the second time around I started to understand more and why he did and acted the way he did. He wanted Dylan and did not want him to date or go out to clubs but did not want to commit either. I hate a character that hurts other and Apollo hurt Dylan but like I said earlier I get it. I now have a soft spot for Apollo; so that is why I am raising my rating from a 3 to a 4. Maybe the next time I listen to this book I may raise the rating but I doubt it.

Tender & beautiful

Loss is hard, Love is hard and this story is a beautiful woven combination of learning to love again after loss. Learning to trust and find your place in the world. I loved this story and Cooper North has a beautiful voice that brings it all to life!

Sexy, wonderful, emotional, funny and more!

What a wonderful story and performance! At times you almost forget it’s fiction and get so wrapped up in the story.

The sex scenes are, well, hot! The Cooper North does a wonderful job of making it feel real and genuine.

This book is full of ups and downs, bringing you along for the rollercoaster ride. You’ll laugh, feel heartache, and maybe even tear up a bit along the way.

While not necessarily a comedy, there are lots of laughs within the powerful story.

Cooper North read the book flawlessly, changing up voices for each character so you never get lost in the story. His inflection and speed are spot on.

This was my first read/listen in this series, but I’ve already downloaded the next one! Annabeth Albert proves she is an imaginative writer who can do the sappy stuff, the sexy stuff, and the funny stuff in one beautiful story.
