Summary

Nathan and his companions are free. For now. They're trapped inside the fortress-city of Halsmet, and every mage of Giantsrest is hunting for them.

Luckily enough, they've been found by Faline, the shapeshifting leader of the Assassins of Gemore. She's pledged to teach Nathan her deadly trade. How far will he go to fight the empire of slavers? How much murder is justified?

Even if they manage to win this fight against Giantsrest, it won't be the end of the conflict. A Questor from ages past lurks in the heart of the Ascendent Academy, and he won't allow Giantsrest to suffer a defeat.

It is time for Nathan to face his sworn enemy, to stand against the Ascendent Academy. But how can one person fight an empire of thousands?

I've enjoyed the series so far, I enjoyed this book as well. the book feels very much a set up and the ending seems abrupt and without pay off

ultimately unsatisfying

Still a good book, but too many comparisons of skills and status updates. The ending is unfinished and the dynamic of the MC’s “team” is off, I know they don’t know each other for a long time, but they are portrayed like they trust the MC, but they clearly don’t, so much suspicion, judgement and hostility thrown his way, especially when he is put in tough spots. I know the author mentions that they are not a permanent team and that they will go their separate ways, hope this happens.

A good book

If you liked the previous entries, you’ll have a great time with this one, but the ending feels mostly like setup for the next one.

I guess this is unavoidable when adapting from an episodic release model.

I’m looking forwards to the next instalment!

The story is still great, but it didn’t feel ready to end

The abrupt ending was pretty unsatisfying, though I did enjoy the book despite that. Great performance as usual and I wish the next book was out already.

Enjoyable but should have been more

Just a constantly horny, kinda stupid MC. The books have somehow gotten worse than the previous vooks

Constantly horny author
