About this listen

It has been more than a year since society fell.

The population has dwindled as a second winter has come and gone. The roaming gangs are now dug in and fortified or have died of starvation or violence.

The safest place to be is inside Altor, the domed city that stands like a jewel in the Nevada desert. But it is not paradise inside the dome either. Janus, the nearly all-powerful Artificial Intelligence, is taking over. Can a few brilliant humans stand in the way of the most powerful program ever created, or will it foil their every move before they make it?

Ashes, Ashes is the third book in the Chronicles of Altor.

I saved this one so I had something to listen to after Christmas. The temptation was to binge the whole thing but I was good and held it back.

The story was a great end, skilfully intertwining the worlds of Shaun Inmon.

So great to have a very satisfying end to the Altor story arch. I began to suspect where some things were going but that did not detract from the journey.

Please visit this world again Shaun. It would be interesting to see where you go next time!

A worthy final chapter for a great trilogy

I can't describe how amazed I am with this writer, the way he creates different characters and somehow brings them all together, also linking all the books together takes a especial person to do that. Mr Shawn I am very glad you share your imagination with us and please continue bringing those thoughts to life. the Artificial intelligence that gained consciousness it's always a frightening thought but nothing is impossible, I think this is my favourite trilogy so far and was sad that it ended, I am impressed by you not wanting to continue and I can imagine you stopping that urge to continue the series. looking forward to read more of your work. big big fan .

c'mon Shawn , how can you have JANUS do what he does, including the murder of hundreds in ALTO alone, then fob it off as just a paragraph that happened....the Ai needs to be accountable and an explanation needed...or a standalone book on JANUS and the reasoning behind it....
other than that it's brilliant....
I highly recommend....
ROBOT GENETICISTS...

SPOILER ALERT!!!!

I love the Kragdon-ah books LOVE THEM!, and was hoping I'd feel the same way about this prequel series, but the all powerful Villain-Sue was too fantastical for me.

It really used the evil AI trope to the nth degree. It became predictable, then pulled the same trick that Transformers 2 did and made a perfect replica of a human, and just like when watching Transformers 2, I rolled my eyes.

It contains some great characters and at times felt like World War Z with the seperate stories of different cities and towns and how they're dealing with the apocalypse, but book 3 reached even further than book 2, and the monk reveal felt like a huge waste to me.

I don't know if there's a book 4, but this is where I stop..... Like I did with the middle falls series when Shaun redeemed a murderer and made the victim watch.

Bring back Alex Hawk.

Went too far with the AI *spoilers ahead*
