Story
Senior snoop, Agnes Barton, has taken up residence in a Winnebago at a campground in East Tawas, Michigan. It's not the ideal place for a woman of 72 to live, but she's making do. She had planned to start a detective agency with partner in crime, Eleanor Mason, but a snag with the license has them free-wheeling it, not that it matters because they are the ones folks call when dead bodies turn up.

When a spaceship landed in an open field in the quiet mill town of Sorrow Falls, Massachusetts, everyone realized humankind was not alone in the universe. With that realization everyone freaked out for a little while. Or almost everyone. The residents of Sorrow Falls took the news pretty well. This could have been due to a certain local quality of unflappability, or it could have been that in three years the ship did exactly nothing other than sit quietly in that field, and nobody understood the full extent of this nothing the ship was doing better than the people who lived right next door.

Summary
Agnes Barton is not your typical senior citizen living in Tadium, MI, on the shores of Lake Huron. She drives a red hot Mustang, shops at Victoria's Secret, rankles local police officials, and has a knack for sticking her nose where it doesn't belong. What does a murder that happened forty-three years ago have to do with missing tourist Jennifer Martin? Agnes makes it her personal mission to find out, and she's not letting the fact she's seventy-two get in the way. Butting heads with Sheriff Clem Peterson is something she's accustomed to, but lately Clem seems to be acting even more strange, making Agnes wonder what he may be hiding ala the Martin disappearance. Agnes' partner in crime, Eleanor Mason tags along, Watson to her Holmes. Together, they unearth clues. If only Eleanor would behave, as although lovable, she has a knack for getting into trouble by tangling with her rival, Dorothy Alton, or flirting with anyone - male or female - and gossiping! She's incorrigible, but she does carry a Pink Lady revolver in her purse, one that has proved useful at times. Life for Agnes and Eleanor is shaken up when Agnes' former boss and secret crush comes to Tadium. Before long, the lady sleuths have more on their hands to contend with as goons roll into town and bullets begin to fly.

A fun read with some dark parts
First, this is a spoof. So of course, much of the humor is over-the-top. That being said, be careful not to eat or drink while listening to this one, or you will need to keep a towel handy (or someone who knows how to do the Heimlich). Yes, some of the parts relating to the murders, and the dangers that Agnes gets into are quite disturbing, and unless you have had a 93 year old female relative who rode around in her truck with a shotgun mounted for easy release to provide "instant roadkill", you might find some of the situations wholly improbable. But I did have that relative, so all I had to do was imagine her and LMFAO! No plot recap, that was done by publisher, but expect lots of plot twists. Enjoy this mystery for the fun that it is, and don't expect Nero Wolfe or Kinsey Milhone.
Toni gives a great performance, and with seeming ease, she differentiates each of the characters (and they certainly are!) and adds to their personalities.

"UNBELIEVEABLE"
I thought this book would be a fun light listen. Like the MudBug series or a Molly Harper book. But it was diffucult to finish. The attempts at humor were lacking humor, at best. The plot was weak. And the conculsion felt rushed. I kept thinking, did I skip a part?
And the narrator should not attempt to perform voice changes. It sounded like a grandmother trying to do voices for a child's bedtime story. Really, one expects a professional reader to have more range ability. This is not a series that I will continue.

could not finish it
I really wanted to like this book I love the whole premises of having senior sleuths.however the book itself was a disappointment it was not particularly well written the characters were one-dimensional and unbelievable this story was okay at best and I felt like they tried too hard for humor and it just didn't work. it was a real struggle to finish this book and probably not worth my effort

A 71 year old lady buying a vibrator? Not Cozy!
What disappointed you about Armed and Outrageous?
Nice that a 71 year old woman has a sense of humor. But when it came down to her buying a "vibrator" and looking forward to "using it" count me out!Not at all my idea of a Cozy Mystery".
What do you think your next listen will be?
Something that doesn't involve little old ladies using personal vibrators
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Dissapointment
Any additional comments?
Ugh

Eh..
What would have made Armed and Outrageous better?
Better developed plot and characters. The plot was pale and the main characters were unlikable.
Has Armed and Outrageous turned you off from other books in this genre?
No.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator made multiple errors in pronunciation. For example she used lead (/liːd/) instead of lead (/led/).
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
It wasn't predictable.

Much Too "Cosy" for This Cosy Reader
I was looking for a new mystery series. I like cosies, so this seemed like the ideal solution--and the protagonist is even older than I am! However, I really didn't care for this book. Apparently in a bid to attract senior readers, the senior protagonist, Agnes, is constantly mentioning the ills and aches of old age, "old man" smell, false teeth, etc., etc. This is not how I view my senior years, and the constant mention was off-putting, not inviting. The protagonist's sidekick is an overweight senior woman whose belly is constantly jiggling with laughter, and the sight of whose naked body is enough to have a police officer dying "to gouge his eyes out." This is also distasteful, condescending and off-putting. These two people live in a town where senior people are constantly being insulted and bullied (also not my experience). And the denizens of this town often go from mild disagreement to physical violence in a matter of moments. The ensuing brawls I gather were intended to be funny, but I just thought they were slapstick and stupid. I did manage to finish the novel, so I guess it had some redeeming value, but I won't be reading any more of this series.

BORING!
The plot never gets going. The story follows two elderly ladies around trying to solve a missing person report. The book does not know what it wants to be. A comedy about being old or trying to solve a crime. it's not good at either.
