About this listen

Alexa Lynch has spent most of her adult life lying about who she was. Not even her family knew she worked for the CIA.

Now she can't outrun those lies when she's caught standing over her informant. Her very dead informant.

Charged with murder. Then released on bail. Alexa will have to try and discover who set her up. She will have to learn to trust the prison guard, Colt, who first thought the worst about her.

Colt Allen wasn't looking for love. Not after his first disastrous marriage.

Being a single father to a teenage daughter is enough. Dating—no way. But Alexa Lynch isn't just any woman. She's the one he can't stop thinking about. Confident. Gorgeous. A perfect 10. She's also the newest inmate in his prison.

He shouldn't want her. It's wrong on so many levels. It's easy to remember that while it's forbidden, but then he learns she's an innocent bystander.

If he were smart, he would just forget about her. Let her solve her own problems. Except the need to help her is strong. Even if it means making his life more of a mess.

But to what extent? People are still after her and they aren't afraid to drag his family into the mix. Can Colt and Alexa work together to keep everyone safe?

I really enjoyed how this story, it was a good mix of a mystery and romance. FMC Alexa finds herself in a huge mess when she is accused of a crime she didn't commit. She usually tries to handle everything herself, but this time she’s in way over her head but has no idea who she can trust.

The local sheriff believes her but it's his son Colt, a corrections officer who takes a more personal interest in Alexa. Colt has a volatile ex-wife sand a teenage daughter so has to be very careful about the relationship at first.

I liked their dynamic because Colt doesn't start off as her friend, in fact, he originally thinks the worst of her. He was so conflicted between his attraction to her but his needs to keep his daughter safe whilst they find out more info. It was interesting to watch his opinion of her shift as he realises she might actually be an innocent person who was set up.

Alexa manages to also build a sweet relationship with Colt's daughter.

The tension stays high as they all try to figure out who really committed the crime, and hopefully clear Alexa's name.

🎧 Audio narration was by Avery Caris and Liam Dicosimo. This is a duel narration. I've listened to Avery before and I enjoy her narration. Liam is new to me but I hope it won't be the last. Both did an excellent job on bringing the characters and story to life.

suspense and romance

Romantic suspense is my favorite trope and Elizabella Baker has quickly risen to be a favorite for me. This features Alexa, and as the CIA operative of her first responder family and on one knows her job. So when she is arrested and burned by her department, she finds herself in a pickle. Luckily, someone thinks she is innocent of her charges. Colt is a prison guard and when he finds her in his family cabin, he is confused. Why would his father post her bail? Now the fun begins. Danger, passion, it's all there as things start to take off. Alexa has a lot of depth, and she is a force. Colt is right there with her as they figure out what is going on and I loved how their relationship grew. And his daughter, McKenna is amazing! The story is intriguing and I loved it!

Avery Caris and Liam DiCosimo are the story tellers for this one, and they know exactly how to make it come to life. Caris is Alexa, scared, but not giving up, she uses her voice to show her strength and passion. DiCosimo is so good as Colt. Hesitant, not giving in too easily, a dad voice and a lover he finds Colt's sound and makes him real. I enjoyed this listen!

SO good! Just what I needed!
