Summary

Rennek is an honor-bound male whose very existence in life is tarnished by the sins of his father. When he and his crew stumble onto a trafficking ring his immediate instinct is to rescue the females. He finds himself drawn to one of them, setting in motion a dangerous course of events propelling him towards his destiny. Can Rennek be the leader his people need him to be as the secrets of the past are uncovered?

Kate has spent years muddling through life, never quite finding a place for herself. When she wakes in an alien cargo hold, life surprisingly becomes a lot easier. Well, except for the bounty hunters and dirty space cops pursuing her, of course. Kate's new found happiness has a lot to do with her sexy new alien boyfriend, but she doesn't know how to react when he suddenly starts calling her his mate. Will Kate be able to move beyond the hangups of her past and give herself completely to Rennek?

Contains mature themes.

Thoroughly entertaining!

I enjoyed this audiobook very much. The heroine is one of many girls kidnapped from Earth by a gross alien trafficker. The hero is the captain of a ship that has the mission of collecting wildlife from various worlds for his brother. The two meet when he rescues her and several other women from the slavers. They are being hunted and go to a planet to escape. Trying to call his people back home to the planet, they fall deeper in love. Narration was well done!

Insipid entitled bratty American White Women

I am so sorry but I just cannot connect these women are shallow immature and boring. I can’t take these characters they are just too superficial and basic for me ..... Definitely a book meant for a younger mind

Great Read

What an unexpected but wonderful read/listen! I've been on an alien romance kick for a bit; reading Grace Goodwin, S.E. Smith, Ruby Dixon, and Evangeline Anderson and I think I've found another to add to my list. This book, to me, had it all. There was action, danger, humor, bitchy girls, men being dicks, beautiful world description, romantic and my favorite the very steamy intimate moments!! I really enjoyed both Hero and Heroine. Many books the male will piss me off with his take charge know best attitude or the female will be too whiny judgy or something but nope not here, you get that in a few supporting characters but thankfully not the main. So if you're not afraid of very detailed intimate moments and an alien species who pretty much know their mate on sight get this. I Loved It!!

Best if it's kind!

This is the first book I have seen by this author and it is phenomenal. I have read many sci-fi alien romance types of books but this one is by far the best. That is saying a lot since I love Ruby Dixon and Laurann Dohner...although New Species will probably always be the best non-alien sci-fi. From start to finish this book is amazing.

Loincloths in Space

For its genre (alien romance), I quite liked this book. This will never be classic literature or hard sci-if. But, if it can deliver fun, sexy good times with decent characters, plots, and dialogue, then I consider these great sale purchases. In my opinion, this story of Rennek the gargoyle-like captain, who rescues a group of abducted Earth gals and forms an instant attraction with Kate, hit all the right spots. There’s even a reasonably good background story arc to permit other books with other HEA couples.

Are there some flaws? Sure. The idea that space-faring aliens wear only loin cloths was a wee bit hard to swallow. Also, after the fun first half, the book bogs down as the crew/rescued gals split up and we spend long chapters with just Rennek & Kate playing house on a primitive jungle planet (where the loin cloth worked better, come to think of it 😜). There are F-bombs, but I found them more fun than offensive. Some of the nooky could be better written (there’s over use of the phrase “eroticism of the moment,” like the author has to tell us the scene is erotic rather than show us). And, for an alien romance, I felt like the nooky to story ratio was on the low end; even though the first hanky-panky kicks off early, the actual consummation doesn’t happen until nearly the end of this 11 hour book.

This series ended up being very hit or miss for me. Book 2 spends 8 hours with an entirely different cast before merging with the cast of this book. I did not enjoy book 2 as it lacked humor & camp to balance the slow burn romance between two self-absorbed idiots. Book 3 gets better. Over all, I’m good with buying these on sale.

I put this series way ahead of Dianne Duvall’s The Lasaran or M.K.Eiden’s Grim/Tornian series, both of which were not for me because of the baby focus and the dubious consent themes.

This book shared things in common with three of my favorite alien romance series:
📍Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon - Hunky blue suede aliens with horns, tails, and ridges in the right places worshipping ordinary gals who find themselves abducted and end up on a primitive planet. The nooky is campier and more plentiful. There’s even loincloths and Mason Lloyd’s fabulous narration! Noelle Bridges narrates Ms. Dixon’s Dragon series, which I found less fun because of the constantly primitive conditions and the “all Earth men are scum” storyline.
📍Dark Planet Warriors by Anna Carven - Silver alpha male warriors with sexy, gravely voices, who tangle with feisty gals while action, mayhem, and hawt nooky ensue. The best books are the first few in the series, and books 1-4 can be had for 1 credit in an omnibus. Totally worth it!
📍The Clecanians series by Victoria Aveline - like this series, there’s a wider variety of aliens in need of mates, but there’s better characters, plot, humor and smex. (Liked all except book 2)

disappointing

this was a disappointing book. narrators were horrible, it was almost robotic. inflections were off. story had potential but the writing was to detailed when it should not have been. making you "check out". I got through 3/4 of book and just couldn't waste anymore time hoping it would get better. hoping I can return this

Great storytelling

Love the narration of this book!
Rennek is a half breed on his planet. He knows nothing about his father's people. The society he grew up in is matriarchal. He had joined a group called UPC. They are a military type policing unit for their area of the Galaxy. He now works for his half brother scientist finding new animal species to study and interbreed in the wild. He and his group of five other half-breed aliens stumble upon a smuggling ring of sentient beings, namely human women.
Kate is one of the many women who were stolen from earth and kept in cryo. When she and five other women are abruptly awoken by some frog like creature she attempts to defend and save the other women. Then a gargoyle type alien(Rennek) rescues them.
Love the journey this book portrays as these characters find out about who they really are. Rennek finds out more about his father's people as well as his mate while Kate figures out that she can be loved for who she is.
I am excited to read more in this universe!
If you like sci-fi you should definitely give this book a try!

BORING

This book sucked as bad as the first time I tried to listen to it in 2019. It did not capture my imagination or hold any interest for me. I shopped for other books while this was talking along in the background as noise. I had to quit. Yuk. Don’t waste your money or your credit. Reading a cereal box is more interesting.

Really authors, does anyone in your world not tell you “this shit sucks sister, you can do better” or is it all about making money?. Geez. I just don’t get it.
