Summary

In a world reliant on technology, the bright flashes in the sky were just the beginning.

With the power gone, the UK falls into a state of panic. The ensuing anarchy is simply the warm-up act. Shaun Taylor is stranded far from home, far from a broken family he needs to make whole again, and he will do whatever it takes to get back to them. What would you do to get home? What would you do if the lights went out?

From the best-selling author of After It Happened and Toy Soldiers comes a new UK post-apocalyptic series.

another hit from DCF

I liked this book from the start!DCF pulls you into this apocolyptic world with his usual finesse and flair, whilst Kevin kemp proved himself to be an excellent narrator . Now , I could try and wax lyrically about DCF and his writing style or how he creates believable scenarios with convincing characters like Shaun,Abbie and Lydia...but I won't ! I'm not an expert on the written word, but I know what I like, and In layman (or is lay persons ? )terms just read this book for yourself....Its an absolute BELTER!

As struggle from start to finish. Poor story line a lot of pathetic people, main characters simply awful.

Loved it

Not as quick to the action as some dystopian end of the world type novels but the slow burn story is exceptionally well told. DCF Has another hit on his hands

Brilliantly crafted characters

Another well crafted creation by Devon C Ford - weaving a story that draws you in wanting to know the fate of the main characters- drawing you effortlessly in, anticipating where their stories will take you

Very enjoyable and believable

Very good book, easy to listen too and very well narrated. The story is engaging and very believable, the way society breaks down so quickly has been easily shown in the last 2 years of the Covid pandemic. I particularly enjoyed the book being set in the UK and understanding the places, behaviours and details.
I’m now going on to listen to Toy Soldiers and hope it’s as engaging.

Great Narration, Interesting Journey

💚 This is a reformed-husband-fighting-to-get-to-his-family apocalypse, but with the wife’s perspective as well. So a bit like The End of the World Running Club, but quite a different tone.

🧡 The view of human life in the face of scarcity is closer to Thomas Hobbes’ 'Nasty, brutish and short' viewpoint than I’d have preferred. And, while I liked Abby’s feistiness - I pictured her played by Thirteenth Doctor Jodie Whitakker - some of Shawn’s internal dialogue felt aged before its time. Not a fan of the couple’s teen, Lydia. Very whiny and not too bright, although there is one fun fight scene in which she takes the lead.

💜 Listen to this for the understated British approach to an EMP apocalypse, the dour humour and suspense of reuniting a family.

SOUNDBITE

🎧 This made for a great listen. Narrator Kevin Kemp lends a lightness to the production and comes across as relatable and likeable, I also appreciated the attention paid to the chapter listings.

🎧 I would caution that this isn’t a laid back listen. One narrator reading two storylines can be difficult to follow, especially when both have similar characters and group makeup.

Not what I expect from Devon

Simple and quick, no likeable characters, didn't care if any made it to the end. He misspelled Karen as A-B-B-Y throughout. I always list Devon at the top of my: who I read list, and i recommend the After it Happened series to any that will listen, I was just very disappointed in every character, just two dimensional annoyances that kept dragging me through the story. I'll be skipping any subsequent books about this bunch of underfoot narcissists. Sorry Dev, this one is a miss

Wow! So Good.

I'm a huge fan of the After if Happened series and this is right on par. I cannot wait for the next two books and hope it goes past 3 but either way, I'm so stoked to have a post-apocalyptic series based in reality and from Devon C. Ford. Kevin Kemp crushes it as well.

Devon C Ford’s After the Silence Review

This is my first read from this author. The narrator, Kevin Kemp, masterfully drew me into the story and kept me there. The book is keenly prophetic given current world events. I enjoyed the book but was also terrified. I hope this work of fiction does not become my reality as it has already done for so many people.

Another Good Storyline To Get Lost In

I really enjoyed this new book by Devon. Always appreciate the fact when I’m listening in he immediately transports me into the story to where I feel like I’m with the characters myself. All the emotions they are feeling are pretty much relatable. I wish to def see ALOT more in this series!
