Summary

Miss Marple meets Oscar Wilde in this new series of cosy mysteries set in the picturesque Cotswolds village of Bunburry.

In "A Murderous Ride," the second Bunburry book, Alfie discovers that he has not only inherited a cottage from his late Aunt Augusta but also a 1950s Jaguar. He is dismayed: for reasons of his own, he no longer drives. Aunt Augusta's best friends, Liz and Marge, persuade him to get behind the wheel again - but that's just the start of his troubles. Alfie discovers it's a seriously bad idea to get on the wrong side of the local police sergeant. Especially when he finds himself at a murder scene and the sergeant decides Alfie's the murderer. There's only one thing to be done. Alfie has to track down the real murderer himself - which will force him to drive as he's never driven before.

Nathaniel Parker, born in 1962, graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and went on to join the Royal Shakespeare Company. His television career began in 1988 when he played Flying Officer 'Flash' Gordon in the LWT mini-series "Piece of Cake". He is also the lead in the BBC series "Inspector Lynley Mysteries", based on the novels by Elizabeth George. Nathaniel Parker has an extensive list of audio books to his credit, ranging from the classics of Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy to more modern writings and children's books.

Ride On

Another great Bunbury tale. With likeable, interesting characters, and great narration. These books are easy-listening and very enjoyable.

Not my taste at all

For some reason the writer made a choice to make her main character a completely feckless and relentlessly self pitying idiot. The setting and theme of cozy murder I like, and I like the short story format but the protagonist is just unbearable to me. I would not recommend this story to anyone.

Not as good as the first book by far, but not bad

Not nearly as entertaining and richly described as the first installment in the series, almost seeming rushed to be released. I missed the characters of Liz and Marge in most of this story. Still, narrated beautifully by Nathaniel Parker and fun to listen to.

More Bunberry please!

I love these fun, lighthearted romps. If you like cozy mysteries and don't need a load of graphic violence and sex to be entertained then these are a great way to spend a little time.
As far as the narration, let me know when Nathaniel Parker narrates the phone book and sign me up! He gives each character a distinctive, believable voice and personality and you always know who is speaking. Already loved him as an actor and love him twice as much for narrating these lovely little books.

Weak

I tried this series because I was so charmed by the "Cherringham" cosy mystery series. I can not stand the feeble, feckless main character and I will return this book.

A light and pkeasant audio

Love the narrator's performance and his soothing warm voice. The crime story isn't as heart pounding or intriguing or full of suspense, but it makes a wonderful, enjoyable and easy listen.

Loving this cozy series ..

These stories are like mini-munchies -- a couple or three hours and you've had the full ride, smiles, laughs, intrigue, mystery -- all in a nibble size story that will take you thru an evening with a glass of wine. They are, in a word, charming.
