About this listen

Power. Obsession. The terrible price of survival.

Desdemona Althenia has spent her life in the shadows, hiding volatile magic that could kill her if unleashed. Born into the lowest ranks of society, she's survived by her wits—and her willingness to lie. But when fate traps her within the brutal walls of Visnatus Academy, power is finally within reach.

Prince Lucian Aibek lives beneath the weight of a crumbling empire and a family that thrives on control. Desdemona's fire may be his freedom—or his downfall.

As their fates entwine, trust becomes more dangerous than magic. And as an ancient war stirs, they must choose: surrender to the darkness—or let it remake them.

For fans of The Poppy War, The Atlas Six, and The Cruel Prince.

Desdemona, is the most insufferable MMC I think I’ve ever had the displeasure of listening to self-absorbed annoying. The story could have been at least edited by about 10 chapters. The world building is okay if not lacking substance. The side characters are not given enough time in the story to make you feel anything for them even when they are killed off. The only Character that gives the book anything redeemable is Lucian, at least he had some development throughout. Overall, I’d give this book 2 stars.
